Shovel Knight/Megaman 5 remix - "Trapped Inside"

This track was made for the Robots vs. Knights competition on OverClocked ReMix (http://ocremix.org/community/topic/44082-robots-vs-knights/) and combines the track "Plains of Passage" from Shovel Knight with "Mercury" from Megaman 5.

For the final round in the Robots vs. Knights compo I decided to do a vocal track. As it happened, I played a lot of Persona 5 before this round, and the catchy music by Shoji Meguro really influenced me. Essentially the style and the instrumentation are incredibly heavily inspired by "Life Will Change", but with lead parts from Shovel Knight and Megaman V.

For lyrics I thought it would be interesting to explore the idea that both Shovel Knight and Mercury have a metal skin and how they could feel trapped and restricted because of it. Mirby ran with this concept and put it in actual words, and she chose this interesting approach with verses from both Shovel Knight, Mercury and both of them together are singing about their respective feelings. 

Vocally and tonally that gave me a bit of a challenge, since I only had one singer, but two main characters singing. I decided it'd be okay to cheat and play around with a Izotope Vocalsynth and make Mercury actually sound like a robot.

Speaking about vocals... if you have the inspiration and idea to do a vocal track, but can't sing yourself, it means you have to look for other options. Considering this was a compo track that meant a strict, short deadline once more, which limits the options. Fortunately swordofdestiny heard my plight and took up the challenge to vocalise both Shovel Knight and Mercury. Fast forward a few recordings and discussions and a fair amount of production work to get it to sound it right, but I think it turned out rather well. I'd like to think it's its own track and not just a Shovel Knight/Mercury remix with a ripoff of "Life Will Change".
