VA001 DONT SMILE AT ME - Widow

Three years after his contribution to Banshees Records, Madrid-based producer Silicodisco returns to the Toledo-based label with a new release and a different ally. If in the first release he teamed up with Cantabrian producer Parissior, on this occasion he teams up with Luis Bonías, a veteran DJ and producer from the Valencian scene. Bonías, now under his alias Bias, has been involved in most of the mythical Valencian venues and has participated in and released a significant number of releases. However, although his records have diversified a lot during his career, this collaboration with Silicodisco confirms the potential of both of them to work with contemporary EBM or with the sonic qualities of industrial and techno.

With three original tracks and a couple of covers by two Spanish projects, Alen Skanner and SM Forma, this five-track collection explores very different perspectives and influences, although the result shows a great affinity between the tracks.

Industrial Walls Of Jericho, the opening track, exhibits a sound and style that fits perfectly with dark wave and industrial electro, however, Alen Skanner's version confirms that there is a context, which is further enhanced with this remix, more akin to goa or psychedelic trance, and indeed, Alen Skanner moves his version completely into this realm.

Primal Tension, the only track without a replica, is nourished by a forceful punch, the strength of the sub-bass and the bass line, although its development involves very disparate locutions, arpeggiated structures or evasive textures. As for Looking For The Residents Motion, the original cut is cerebral and architecturally twisted and complex. SM Forma also adds to the chaos with its remix, although structurally it is a much more ordered and dancefloor-friendly version.

Hailing from Thessaloniki, Greece, and now residing in Strasbourg, France, Alpha Sect is a project of George McCall, which is focused on breaking electro patterns and pumping body music with serious punk influences. He started his music career as a guitarist in the post-metal band Sleepstream with 2 albums on their track record and he is an active musician with participations in physical theatre performances with his side-project. (Resiliencia) Resilience is defined as the resistance of human beings to face and resist extreme and traumatic situations. The Valencian people, and many of us who have unfortunately experienced first-hand the devastation of nature in our homes, or in those of our closest relatives, have known the pros and cons of the meaning of resilience.

Industrial Complexx coordinates the release of a compilation album in which different artists and labels collaborate, such as Faith Disciplines, Soil Records, Subsist Records, HC Records, Fill-Lex Records, Unknown Pleasures Records or Banshees Records. The intention of this reference is to raise funds to help the NGO Algemesí Solidari (www.algemesisolidari.org). This is an organisation that acts directly in the towns most affected by the recent floods that hit Valencia.

This compilation will be active until this situation is resolved and the NGO, or any other, no longer needs any kind of financial support for this cause. It is an album that compiles a large amount of tracks, and with styles ranging from industrial to experimental, electronica, EBM, power electronics, dark ambient, post-punk, cold wave, dark wave...

As a Valencian project, like many of those who have contributed to this release, we feel deeply overwhelmed by all the expressions of affection received and by the willingness of many artists to support this cause, and we feel the need to help our fellow countrymen as much as possible.
