This month on ALT CAST, we are very excited to have a one hour exclusive mix from Detroit native and Brooklyn based artist: Arvin T. More about the artist below:

Arvin T is a Midwest born, Brooklyn based DJ. Raised in a musical household in the 80's and 90's, his older sisters and parents would play anything from disco, synth wave, industrial, to Persian pop music, and hip hop, the list is endless. His first foray into live music was his freshman year in college, when he and friends would attend pre-parties for Detroit Electronic Music Festival. After some time, he explored the house and techno scenes between Detroit and Chicago.

His move after college to Chicago exposed him to an entirely new area of music. Attending many club nights, he learned from Chicago house, to high energy, or even more melodic sounds and trance. He was making playlists and finding new music that he loved, adding to his musical palette.

Arvin’s sets can range from nu-italo and EBM, to hard trance and techno. His style started to form as he began to notice that the music he gravitated towards would have a signature '80s sound, but with a future and present twist. Influenced by the fresh sounds coming from Toulouse, Amsterdam, and Berlin, he curates his sets to be driving and relentless, while leading his audience through the entire spectrum of emotions.

Arvin T is currently a monthly resident at Hart Bar in Brooklyn, where he hosts his Harekat parties that invite local artists to come display their talent. The parties range from industrial techno and minimal, to house and italo. He has played in the New York City, Chicago, Miami, and Tampa areas.

An extract from an almost extinct genre, fleeting like bubbles in champagne, and just as tickling, whether it's the palate in mouth or your eardrums. 
Once rock and roll turned into yéyé, disco into synth, hip-hop into R&B, Shibuya-kei into J-pop, and any music lover finds it hard to get used to these metamorphoses. 

But club pop, the essence of 20th-century pop culture, managed to absorb all genres and directions, coupling easy listening with drum and bass, hard rock with big beat, ragtime with electro. 

Press 'Play' and embark on a journey through the ghost offices of 2000s record companies: Bungalow, Matador, Diggler, Emperor Norton, press those dusty doorbells! 

But this isn't a journey back; it's forward, because the flag of irony and postmodernism is waving again, to the assertive chords of fresh Confidence Man and Dutch Girl (both oddly from Australia). Their flags are in the same wind as the once-cult Arling & Cameron, Ursula 1000, and Le Hammond Inferno. 

Forget the religion of techno, garish house, and cloying disco - it's time to relax those nasolabial folds, swap tight leather for soft athletic shoes, and let serotonin reign, the musculoskeletal system be free!

This mix was recorded in 2018 for Koktebel Jazz festival, originally based in Crimea, Ukraine. 
Let's hope it will go back to the seaside stage again!
