As part of the process of exploring our relationship with this project, we put together a mix built around some own the concepts and inspirations behind Omura. Tunes that inspired us, in their original form, or reworked and reinterpreted to better reflect the way we channelled each other’s idea through the creative ecosystem that grew out of the album. 

The ecosystem represents a realm of pure creativity where ideas exist, on their own terms. They are there for anyone to discover but to do so, we need to step out of our usual patterns and spaces to find them. Omura was our guide to this realm and our guide once we had found it.

Divided into four sections, roughly corresponding to the different ecosystems Omura helped us to explore, the mix was initially performed live on the same mixing desk the album was built with in Hackney, before being bounced down and sent over to Bristol for further manipulation and processing. At each stage, further layers of texture and creative degradation was incorporated, mirroring the way we distorted and recontextualised each other’s musical ideas as we bounced files between our studios.

Om Unit surprises us with a second volume of his 'Acid Dub Studies' project, once again fusing his love for the 303 with studio techniques given to us by musical heroes such King Tubby, Adrian Sherwood, Jammys and Basic Channel

This second volume further solidifies the convincing narrative created by its best-selling predecessor, heading in a more groove-based direction in places whilst being underpinned by the same sonic narrative that has been enjoyed by many music fans from a variety of different spheres for the past 18 months or so

Support so far for the Acid Dub Studies project has come from many corners including some of the most highly respected names in UK Radio such as Don Letts and Steve Barker, Benji B and Tom Ravenscroft as well as a whole host of truly global worldwide underground support both via radio and in the dance

Om Unit says of this record:  'I felt encouraged by the sheer love for the original selection of works to go back in again and continue to experiment with this approach to writing whilst  refining some of the process. Being able to combine processes and influence has been the mainstay of my creative life and I hope this next volume of Acid Dub will be enjoyed by everyone who was a fan of the first'

Pirate Mix 011: Om Unit

Straight out of Japan’s night scene, Takeaki Maruyama aka Goth-Trad is taking over this episode of Bass Music hosted by The Untouchables.

Goth-Trad has been composing dubstep since 2005 and has started a dubstep party series, Back to Hill, launched in Tokyo around the same time which led to his first international releases including a series of 12" EPs and later an album out on seminal UK dubstep label DEEP MEDi MUSIK.

He became a household name internationally and regularly played DJ sets and live acts around the world. In 2014, he launched his own label, Back To Chill and around 2016 he started to turn towards more experimental sounds again, both on his solo releases and with his new band Eartaker before he finally returned to releasing dubstep in 2021.
