London-based DJ and producer Katie Wilkinson is a bird lover, no wonder she decided to call her brand-new music project… Birds. Exploring her New Wave, 80s Goth, Techno, Psychedelic, and Experimental influences, Katie has been delivering high-quality themes and drawing more and more attention through her solid releases on influential Indie Dance labels such as Emerald & Doreen, Ombra International, Samo, Inside Out, and now on NEIN Records with “Time”, a 4-track EP divided into two dark-as-hell originals and two dangerous remixes by our dear friends Alvee (FREEDL019) and Gegen Mann (SXDNS220).

Her music brings together acid basslines with post-punk style guitars and off-kilter vocals to create something refreshingly original. The successful formula has been responsible for extremely well-crafted retro-infused pieces. In sum: Music with attitude, that’s the best definition of Birds’ exquisite sonority.

Through the remix we were solicited to review/premiere, Alvee proved he is totally familiarized and comfortable dealing with the mesmerizing Post-Punk universe. His interpretation of “Feed The Void” kept the gloomy atmosphere of the original even after having spiced & speed up things a little bit. The Mexican virtuoso went from 100 to 121 BPM, properly twisted the vibrant acid layer, and added some badass guitar riffs that paired sublimely with the amazing vocals by the star of the hour. Kudos, Jungs!

Local Suicide (@localsuicide) return with the third of four remix EPs for their debut album, 'Eros Anikate', this time named after the ancient Greek god Apollo.

The Greco-German DJ and Producer couple are known for their wild fusion of new wave, acid, slow techno, EBM, and dark disco and have been driving live audiences into a frenzy across the globe with captivating performances and live sets. Their propulsive grooves have earned them the title of key figures in the up-rising dark disco scene, as well as overwhelming support from the music press worldwide for their releases to date. Their debut 'Eros Anikate' comes after 13 EP releases and is the next step on their journey to a worldwide cobra wave and techno-disco takeover. The album includes selected vocal features and collaborations from Lena Platonos, Curses, Theus Mago, Kalipo, Sissi Rada and more, and received immense support from the likes of Mixmag, Spiegel, Tsugi, Faze, Inverted Audio, Sonic Seducer, Starwax, Side Line, Ransom Note, Groove, The Sun, Kaput Mag, Electronic Groove, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Lifo, Spotify and Apple Music.

'Eros Anikate - Apollo Remixes' is a 4-track EP featuring a remix for 'Whispering w/ Curses', 'Moustache w/ Skelesys', 'Like Follow Subscribe feat. Hard Ton', and 'PHD In Apology'. The EP will be released digitally and as a limited and numbered clear 12” vinyl via their Iptamenos Discos  (@iptamenosdiscos) imprint on November 18th, 2022.

The EP opens with a remix of 'Whispering' by the legendary, Berlin-based duo, Adana Twins (@adanatwins). Since their first big break in 2012, the duo have established a sterling reputation, constantly refining their sound, pushing the boundaries of their musical ambition and evolving organically over time. They are driven by a deep-seated desire to transmit emotion through electronic music, merging Benjamin's love of hip-hop and Friso's passion for club music to produce a series of highly-regarded releases that form the foundation of their global success. As they've grown, the duo have channelled their love for electronic music into their platform, TAU, providing a creative space to expand their sound while also discovering and nurturing new artists, including Local Suicide, who previously released on the label a few years ago. Their remix of 'Whispering' strips back the synths and guitars, placing the bass at the forefront to drive the track while Curses' dark, 80s-inspired vocals dance among Dina's echoing whispers. Local Suicide collaborated with New York born and raised artist Curses to reminisce on the wilder and sexier times of the ‘Spaghetti style’ wild west films they watched in their youth, literally putting the ‘wild’ into the ‘wild west’.

After having it on heavy rotation in many sets, we heard 'Zenit'; their incredible debut on Intercept. Save this name: Braulio Renteria, a young Mexican artist, makes his official debut as a producer on the awe-inspiring project Sinchi Collective – a multifaceted music platform that includes a label, a DJ collective, an event promoter, a mix series and a blog. The Collective also established the Sinchi Foundation, which is a non-profit that upholds the UN’s declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and promotes the strength and beauty of indigenous cultures.

Regarding their third release, Altered States Vol. I is a various artists compilation that shows off the label’s broad array of sounds of producers from all over the world. The track we chose to premiere, ‘Venus’, is a “moody, heavyweight cut with punky attitude and cosmic keys”, the right elements “for a real trip”, according to the label’s description.

We asked “Braulitro” to say a few words about himself and his work: "My inspiration when creating tracks with this energy comes from my influences and experience in the DJ booth, my style is defined by many as dynamic, full of funny percussions and organic sounds, like guitars and wind instruments. I have always been passionate about music, especially the alternative rock, and science fiction movies, and that is exactly what I wanted to reflect on 'Venus', the energy of my DJ sets, my taste for music and an extra-terrestrial sensation as a sci-fi film". And he successfully did it!

PREMIERE003 // Braulio Renteria - Venus

Mexico’s Duro label are set to release the first EP from local talent Undefined Pattern, backed with remixes from Damon Jee and Jenia Tarsol.

‘El Desespere’ comes after Undefined Pattern’s debut on the Disque Discos 'DISCORROR IX' compilation and is inspired by the stress and paranoia of living in Mexico. It features three intensely atmospheric tracks with remixes by Damon Jee and Jenia Tarsol.

The fantastic title track gets things under way on a rugged bassline and illuminating synths that speak of a busy urban metropolis. It’s a rumbling disco ride that really takes you somewhere. The dark and heavy disco vibes continue on ‘Estrex Humano’, with its crisp hits and urgent bassline. Edgy synth loops bring the tension and add plenty of drama before ‘Intenxa Salida’ offers a sparser and eerier track, with dystopian, searching synths and melodic details off in the distance that suggest human life amongst a late night urban landscape.

Frenchman, MORE associate and 90s veteran Damon Jee flips ‘Estrex Humano’ into a slow burning and steamy disco stomper with libidinous female vocals, courtesy of Ravintsara and broad synth sweeps. Lastly, ‘El Desespere’ as remixed by Blue Shadow Records boss Jenia Tarsol is a chugger with big rock licks and a filthy bassline.

This is a compelling EP from the fast rising Undefined Pattern and another great package from contemporary disco tastemakers Duro.

The nations of Bosnia and Hungary collided and brought together a new e-music duo: All Eyes On You, despite having been formed not so long ago, already counts with a strong local backing amassed due to their second to none melodic and dark art sets. They started producing only this year – probably as a result of a tedious lockdown – and will finally have their debut release on the alluring UK-based label Paradiso Records curated by respected DJ and producer REES.

For the extra-terrestrial, darker disco lovers out there, AEOY have cooked something beautiful for you: “Red Planet”, the track we chose to premiere, brings a fat bassline, menacing FXs/risings, and a throbbing synth layer that perfectly showcase the sharpness and the sting of their production skills. With two powerful originals and one solid remix by Velax, “Pango EP” is here to show the world the lads have an interesting story to tell: All eyes on them, peeps!
