Paradiso Records releases the Kraken for its 36th EP. Puns aside, Ivan Fabra (SXDNS107) makes his debut on the respected British label with “Kraken Disco”, a high-quality cosmic & mythological release with three cutting-throat originals and two mighty remixes delivered by Tech Support and Alberto Melloni (FREEDL026).

Ivan has been keeping himself busy in 2021 with a string of collaborations/contributions to labels such as Emerald & Doreen, Boite Music, among others. And now, in his first EP of the year, the versatile Spanish producer takes the opportunity to embody a more “Ivan Fabra” signature sonority. The remixers understood the essence of “Kraken Disco” and provided interpretations that, yes, depict their own identity, but don’t break the story told by the originals.

Tech Support, for instance, despite having pitched “Backwards” down (from 124 to 115 BPM), kept the retro-futuristic mood and added more affection, trippiness, in his version, but without losing the excitement and clout from Ivan’s theme. Proper production skills here, peeps!

PREMIERE189 // Ivan Fabra - Backwards (Tech Support Remix)

Quartier Groove Records releases its first EP “Ritmo del Barrio” that features two club weapons from the Spanish electronic music vaults of the 90s, TYU’s remix of Bravo & Dj’s 1989 one-hit wonder “Difacil Rap”, and Richard Fribert’s rework of the early electronic rumba track “Sueño Almohade” by Sombra y Luz. Both tracks have been licensed and agreed with the original labels and writers, and will be limited to 300 copies.

On the a-side, an edgy club revision of a 90s hip-house track that was originally written by a group of DJs compelling us to join them for a wild night out. TYU’s remix, that only makes use of the rad rapapella, makes a perfect match to the daring call and takes us to a 90s rave of today in full style, with its bold drums, slappy snares, trancy synths and road-paving bassline.

The flip comes with Richard Fribert’s powerful and fearless hi-NRG rework of the experimental rumba song “Sueño Almohade” by Sombra y Luz, a track that makes a clear flirt with the history of Spain, a country that was once the Muslim ruled area of “Al-Andalus”. Spanish passion meets Arabic mystique in this hard, slamming, acid ride of an update. The result, a DJ weapon to be reckoned with.

The two tracks comes together to form Ritmo del Barrio EP, “Quartier Groove” in Spanish, the project by label heads Richard Fribert & MOQST that was designed to encourage listeners to search for more unknown and forgotten music in the most unexpected of corners of the world.

This Ep is a perfect combination of all the things they love and much more. Recording live most of this EP they display a very interesting set of skills that runs trough all the tracks. Looped vocals, deep basses sequences, weird melodies and intense drum beats.

Canadian and Mexican forces are on remix duties. Von Party and Iñigo Vontier are also food lovers that with their dise project "Salsa FIngers" give a delicious turn to "Criminal" that is full of psyichedelia and a lot of spicy Salsa.

Performing only live shows, Idolos Futuros have been playing all around Mexico for the last years and we are proud to be the first label to release a litle of the music they have been doing during those intense perfomances.

Alexis Le-Tan and Tom Colebrook quite fluidly morph into our lazy initials: ALTC. Our current appreciation for an older psychedelic sound can be traced back to a dirty, careless and omnipotent period in the early 90’s when the sun, the Fridge Club or Space Tribe leggings brought our bodies together in time to these heroic sounds. Then it all sort of just wound down, more abruptly for some, and for a long time. But like old Smaug under the Lonely Mountain, we understood the longevity of gold. A few years just gone we embarked on a restlessly chaotic and passionate re-appraisal of our sonic past - just at a different speed. An ever growing archive and many edits later, we find ourselves still going; we are a happy and volatile little team, Mr. Le-Tan, who needs no introduction here, a Titan of this slow sound - arguably the original, whose honed booth selections are regularly adorned by loyal crowds all over Europe. Mr. Colebrook, a flash in the pan veteran of the Goa scene, now mainly chief archivist and an Internal wordsmith of ill repute.
There was a folder that existed in the archive called ‘The Socialists’ and over time as we pondered it, we began to understand the contents as taking on some sort of metaphor for a socialist arc of success and defeat, of growth and change, of hope and loss, of commitment and desertion, of lies and the truth, of battles and peace, emptiness and loss. Heroic themes indeed Comrades. As a musical selection, we wanted to imbue these metaphors with corresponding sonic inflections, sometimes we thought of sounds coming up through the ground to fight and be victorious or perhaps to lose, only to retreat and live another solitary day. Some were sounds for a moment of blissful morning sun soaked success, or the grey pulse of an imagined industrial trench. But above all - this selection of songs shows a commitment to each other and to the time and place they were made, and how they exist here - Now. We hope you enjoy the show!
