Next up on Play Pal we are proud to present and welcome for the first time, to Logical Rec. label honchos Ivan De La Rouch & Mike Sacchetti with their EP 'Cúrame', Spanish for ‘Heal Me’, which is certainly a product of its time in an uncertain world.

The title track pumps from the opening bars with a dark psychedelic guitar foundation that builds into a distorted chanting sound palette, punctuated by snares and claps which fuses punk aesthetics with analogue sound and a timely message to go with it.

The second track ‘Moving’ keeps to a similar tempo, while adjusting the rhythm of the bass and leaning towards Bladerunner-esque, synths, pads, retro-future squelches and bleeps sliding between the trademark guitar sounds of the two producers. 

We also welcome for the first time to Amarcord, who keeps the guitars in his spin on 'Cúrame' or 'Curami' as he re-recorded the vocals in his native Italian tongue, but adding his own proto, rhythmic analogue inspired spin on affairs, with more ethereal synths, shifting the EBM down slightly and twisting up the synth lines to dramatic effect.

Skelesys raises the tempo with his take on 'Cúrame', keeping the vocals but bringing the drums and reworking the original into a peak time EBM inspired work out that breaks down before hitting out in the second half, with twisted arpeggios and echoed vocals in a unique reworking of the original.

Mufti continues to raise the bar on his production career with his take on 'Moving', which chimes, growls and grows, as the track swivels and sways through a series of peaks, creating a dark brooding atmospheric piece, which adds yet another layer of urgency to the EP.

Finally, another friend and regular of Play Pal, Rigopolar, reworks 'Moving' adding a punishing synth hook, a shuddering basseline, keeping the original vocals but with a menacing faster paced workout where guitar and cowbell dance together, uneasily and ritualistically.

PREMIERE: Ivan De la Rouch & Mike Sacchetti - Cúrame [Play Pal Music]

Lisbon-based label Karakter is back for its 18th release, the 3rd of the year, and this time featuring a mighty collaboration between two rising Mexican artists: Javier Martínez (SXDNS104) and Fernando Velázquez, mostly known as Undefined Pattern (SXDNS197). "Lane Reduction" was born when the two young producers decided to create their own vision of what a dance peak night track should be. Inspired by long road trips, they delivered two cosmic, dark anthems for the dance floor (one day, we shall return!), both filled with rugged basslines, cosmic synths, and dystopian percussions. The outstanding remix duty was provided with love by none other than Cornelius Doctor and Motel 77 (SXDNS094).

One of the masterminds behind the vital French label HARD FIST, Cornelius Doctor needs no further introduction. Owner of a very peculiar sonority, he spared no efforts to deliver an insightful interpretation of “Delta Junction”. As usual, Cornelius brought some weirdness and inventiveness to the party, adding throbbing vocal layers and intense percussive elements that entirely changed the mood of the solid original. Sometimes that’s the job of the remixer, isn’t it?

Russian Dark Disco Syndicate Oberwave is back with another thrilling VA release to celebrate their anniversary. The volume 4 of their compilation series, as usual, gathers a plural concoction of skilled artists from different corners of our crazy and doomed world: Etane (St. Petersburg), Durand (Córdoba) (SXDNS079), Peaces (Jakarta), PVLOMO (Torreon) (SXDNS098), Ruksby (Moscow) (SXDNS256), and Хеrоsоrex (Milan) brought their characteristic soundscapes together and provided an interesting EP clad in darkness and lustiness.

The track we were solicited to premiere comes from the creative mind of Durand, whose previous works appeared on vital labels such as Nein, Esthétique, Logical, Factor City, and Latido. Combining his EBM, Industrial, and Electro influences, the Spanish producer, once again, showcases his production resourcefulness by delivering a hell of a track to the compilation.

“E.N.S.” roughly stands for “electronic NASA music” and carries an aggressive and intense atmosphere, full of elements that, together, trigger that wild desire of dancing to it loud in a packed and filthy basement somewhere/anywhere along with friends and strangers feeling that unique sensation of unity that only music provides. A bouncing bassline accompanied with trippy synth leads plus ominous vocal hooks (which are original NASA recordings combined with scream samples) result in a theme that, in our humble opinion, is one of the highlights of the EP.

Our Altered States series hits volume number five, this time elevating standout artists from Sweden,Mexico, Russia, France and Germany.

The aim of the series is to create a go-to collection for those looking for original up-and-coming talent from around the globe. And as with
all Sinchi releases, profit from sales go to the Sinchi Foundation which supports indigenous peoples worldwide.

Freakazzé II is a DJ and production duo from Hamburg that roams between slow rave and dark disco, wavy 80s synths and punk drums. Their brilliant 'Blaupause' is a heavy plodder with frazzled synths searching the face of the soot-black groove.

French minimalist electro and cold new wave sounds define the music of Nomenklatür. They have so far released their ravey take on techno on Bass Agenda and Beachcoma and here excel with 'Keeping Distance.' It pairs ice-cold drums and hits with meandering guitar leads that bring a sense of real-world melancholy next to the cosmic chords.

Mexico's Oscar Avendaño aka Levantine plays bass and keys inspired by the Madchester era. He is a storytelling artist with credits on labels like About Disco Records, Hype Muzik and many more. His 'Ultradisco' is a chunky post-punk take on disco with plenty of raw attitude, hypnotic chord vamps and jangling melodic fragments.

Leo Af Ekenstam is a newly emerging alias from a Swedish artist who has been making music for years. With this project, he brings a dark disco sound exemplified by 'Stanford Torus.' It is a spacious and cinematic cut with pulsing bass and slapping hits that jerk you into action as the ambient pads up top bring a pensive mood.

Vladislav is the man behind Orchid, a producer with a penchant for the 80s and 90s era of electronica. Now based in Moscow, he has released on U’re Guay Records and Esthetique already this year. 'Erotica' is a steamy post-disco track with a libidinous female vocal and retro-future chords that bring a real atmosphere to the club.

Paris-based Zaratustra started out making techno but has moved into more melodic sounds with productions coming on Planet Ibiza and Kosa Records soon. House, techno and EBM inform his sounds. 'Thoth' is an adventurous and epic track that builds slowly on a muted acid line before the surging deep house drums voyage off into the stars.

Altered States Vol.5 is another diverse and essential collection of fresh club sounds from hot emerging talents.

Operating from sundered soils - Eftersom is a triangle formed between Ravage Sentimental, close collaborator Jérôme Darmois and Chris Vella aka Moderne Romance. The term 'Eftersom' is used as a nod to their cross-border bond, a bond galvanized by a simple love of music, unwavering creative drive and a fair collection of imperfect studio gear.

With their LP « LIE » lined up for the latter half of 2023 - here the trio presents Tourne Tourne, a precursor to the project, which comes coloured with remixes from Tel-Aviv-based Niv Ast, Mufti, Radial Gaze and Ravage Sentimental herself.

The original kicks things off with a purposeful march. Bold, discordant shards are set above a burning guitar riff and a sultry vocal line which build up a bright, effective Indie recording. Niv Ast then sharpens the energy and turns it into an electro-tinged club track. Mexico's Mufti then suffuses the single with some 80s synthesis before Radial Gaze offers up two unique takes. Their 'Pop' remix lays pellucid twinkles over tight, sharp rhythms, while their Indie remix sets climbing tones over steady, persistent drums across a forceful club tool.

Ravage Sentimental then uses raw, organic elements while allowing her vocals to shine before the warped, hallucinogenic tones of 'Precious' bring things to a close. Thick synthesis, brash drum work and more ghostly vocals evince the sonic symbiosis of the trio while offering an exciting insight into what’s to come.

This time it is the turn of our second installment by one of the minds behind Nativo, the always creative Prince Terrible gives us his single 'Conmigo', a consistent track for the climax of the night, darkness, waste of latex and lyrical pop . In the remixes he is accompanied by Zombies in Miami, giving him a more focused perspective on percussion, tribal rhythms, adding hypnotic sounds with a touch of psychedelia. The remix by the Mexican Mijo sticking to the original line of body-music and taking it to a more dub cut, an instrumental worthy of being heard in any vampire movie. On the other hand, the Spanish Gameboyz who overflow creativity in their remix, including new vocals and stripping the track in an electroclash style. And finally, the electronic duo Psychoweazel who deconstruct the theme to take it to the extremes of Disco, the New Wave, full of nostalgia and drama.

Syrian born and raised duo Boshoco land on Sinchi with a new track that samples the first-ever Arabic Sesame Street, and comes with remixes by Damon Jee and Shubostar.

Once again this is a non-profit release, this time raising money for Syrian NGO Jusoor, which is made up of Syrian expatriates who build bridges between the boundless potential of young Syrians and their opportunities for education, entrepreneurship and global community engagement.

Boshoco's sound is playful, energetic and dark, and recalls nostalgic elements we all have in common. They grew up getting music on bootlegged cassettes and CDs from local musicians in Aleppo and met whilst working in a camp for people displaced from their homes. Together they moved to Turkey and became residents in Temple club in Istanbul and now, given the restrictions of movement on Syrians, they had to split, with half of the pair getting political asylum in France and the other moving to Beirut and continuing to work remotely.

Say the pair of the track, "'Semsem' (like the name Boshoco, a cheap ice cream we both used to eat in Aleppo as children), with the children singing, the heavy baseline, the mystical mezmar solo and the energetic beat, is an homage to the little pretty things that made life sweet in Aleppo and to the heavier emotions that came to it with time." It is a darkly intoxicating tune with a meandering bassline and plenty of exotic instrumentals that transport you to another world.
