Sixth release of Moving Pictures Label comes from one of its founders - Täino. Three originals and a remix from Roman Rai bring a balance between dance-floor material and slow-paced rhytms.

The white-sanded shore was filled with tranquility. Wind was calming too. From time to time she could hear a lonely wave, weakened and exhausted, washed away on the pearl-like sands. It’s been a while since surroundings sounded and felt so peaceful.

Only occasional flakes of ash were landing on the sand, reminding her of the recent events. She could still somehow spot the smoky trail of the Leviathan, dissolving in the distance.
Her sight has quickly switched to the only two objects laying in front of her - a leafy branch and a broken compass needle...

For its 22nd release, the fourth of the year, eclectic Paris-based label Coquelicot Records keeps on spreading its musical horizon with the arrival of a new artist to the family: Divagar, a duo DJ but curiously a solo project regarding production. Heavily influenced by his love for the 80s/90s Hip Hop drums, House and Techno from Detroit, and Disco Music, the forthcoming “Dub” EP showcases, through its four originals, what the Parisian producer is capable of. The interesting combination of his influences are translated into a retro-infused but fresh and vibrant sonority inasmuch as he manages to flirt, successfully, with many different an element and texture.

The track we were requested to premiere, “Retro Dub (New Dub Master)”, is that kind of theme whose genre is hard to define. Not that it matters, but knowing the most suitable pigeonhole of a tune sometimes makes our reviewing work easier. By any means, this is a hell of a tune, devoted to triggering old school dance moves on the dance floor with its groovy broken beats, funky rimshots, and its atmospheric – but ominous – synth layers.

Amsterdam's LOVE APE joins us for our eighth release, bringing his organic and melodic production to the Sawah Indah EP. Inspired by a visit to Bali, the tropical atmosphere infects each track with a warmth and depth, showcasing the producer's talent for creating a mood that's both languid and energised. 'Beachnap' could be a lost DFC Records classic, channeling the famous Italian label's best dreamy house moments with a track that is pure modern balearica. Breathy vocals and organic melodies kiss together as heavenly rhodes keys lead the dance. 'Dance With The Apes' chugs into late night territory; with intoxicating swirling synths, ethnic percussion and a steamy ambience that drives the tension up. 'Ricefields' is a deeper, contemplative jam again rich in atmosphere. Joe Morris chills the mood out further on 'Beachnap', slowing the tempo while sprinkling a touch of acid for a mellow remix to complement the deep red sun as it dips behind a sparkling horizon. Gold Suite completes the Indonesian connection, the Bali based artist turns out a superlative reworking of 'Dance With The Apes'. With great musicality and structure, additional guitars and strings are brought to the fore making for an emotive and joyful finish to the release.

"The Optimo Trax EP was born out of a time when I was listening to a lot of old Bleep House and Rave, early 90s UK stuff. Growing up in Sheffield I was lucky enough to spend some time in Warp Records when it was still a record store and being around this music and the people that made it must have somehow embedded itself into my psyche. Listening to pirate radio stations like Fantasy FM as a teenager helped shape my musical interests as they are today and I guess this EP is somehow a reflection of that education, I wanted to make a collection of music that sounded like it was related to a certain place and time and in effect confirm my own identity within its context."

I've wanted to release my new album for a long time, but numerous other projects have taken a lot of my time. Now the “new album” project is in the final phase. And what should I say? Because of my hard work, the bubbling wealth of strange sound ideas, and the incredible help and support of my dearest friends and family, the “new album” project has become a three-part project.

I have taken another leap in development, absorbed constructive criticism and created a musical milestone for you with my heart and love for breaking culture. Even if the German break DJ scene doesn't really stick together, at least it's the individual contributions that keep the community alive. Unfortunately, so many break DJs still adorn themselves with other people's feathers, because "Digging in the Crates", if anything, is unfortunately not everything.
 
The next three albums are musically filled with real rockets, you have to have that much self-confidence, and many songs have already been tested in international battles. The cross-genre variety of sounds and the detailed wealth of ideas in every single song should bring you a lot of fun breaking and listening. Just have fun with it!
