Alvee & W.O.L.F.- New to Old (CMV4)

The prominent Swedish duo of Elfenberg returns to the label after featuring with the wicked “Kebabsyra”on Rotten Citizens Compilation Vol.4. They've recently released music on labels such as Les Yeux Orange, Feines Tier and Hard Fist. The return to Rotten City will see the light of the long awaited  “Elfenboogie EP”, containing three powerful peak time tracks with all the flavors they like: Acid, Disco and Tribal vibes. 

“Vasta La Hista” is a clear example of a club bomb. Direct, raw, and psychedelic. 100% effective but non generic! 

“Acid Cocoon’” dig into the darker vibes with a spooky and sexy female voice in a “Post-Electroclash” exercise.

With “Elfenboogie” they show us again their favorite elements; Percussion, drive, a soulful vocal and some random weirdness to top it off. "Let's do the Elfenboogie", "Come n Elfenboogie with us”, they always joked around with the term, that now is the title track on this very EP.

The release is complemented with a remix from Julian Sanza & Alvaro Cabana Remix. Both DJs residents at Kaputt Club (Bogotá) joining forces again to turn the Classic Disco vibe of “Elfenboogie” into a trippy and cosmic interpretation.

Putting together a VA release is not an easy task. Putting together a VA release featuring some of the best artists of the Nu Disco/Indie Dance scene is definitely not an easy task. Young but already acclaimed Critical Monday decided to face the challenge and have for their season finale a compilation that would work as a retrospective of the different sounds that makes the French label what it is. Regulars and friends of the house plus newcomers were invited to the occasion inasmuch as working with great artists not only on a creative level but also on the human side as the aim of Critical Monday at the end is to create a music family – and what a family!

“Various Artists Vol. 2” brings Andreja Salpe, Bonnie Spacey & Rem's Martinez, Yourr, Della & Poulper, Favio Inker & Harock, Back From The Wave, Endrik Schroeder, Alex Aguayo & Silicodisco, Mundo D, and Konnekt who spared no efforts to deliver high-quality contributions to the soirée.

The track we chose to premiere/review was made with love by veteran producer Paco Buggin aka Silicodisco and rising star Alex Aguayo. In “Return To The Truth”, the duo seamlessly combined their particular influences in order to deliver a dark & groovy theme with an enticing bassline, trippy synth layers, and gorgeous guitar riffs, resulting in a beautiful dance floor-oriented cut.

Roam alumni Freudenthal teams up with Jake the Rapper to deliver a nostalgic homage to 1982. In sound, mood, and feeling the original takes it to the 80s with fun and kitsch underpinned by stylish drums, synthesizers, and electronics.

 The single is backed by two expert remixes by Darlyn Vlys and Lauer. Darlyn Vlys offers a stripped back punchy version while keeping true to the mood of the original. Lauer strips it back even further with vocoders and an 808 and while it deviates from the original it too could just as easily come out of the 80s. Rounding it out is an instrumental version of the original because sometimes you just want the instrumental.

Local Suicide (@localsuicide) return with the third of four remix EPs for their debut album, 'Eros Anikate', this time named after the ancient Greek god Apollo.

The Greco-German DJ and Producer couple are known for their wild fusion of new wave, acid, slow techno, EBM, and dark disco and have been driving live audiences into a frenzy across the globe with captivating performances and live sets. Their propulsive grooves have earned them the title of key figures in the up-rising dark disco scene, as well as overwhelming support from the music press worldwide for their releases to date. Their debut 'Eros Anikate' comes after 13 EP releases and is the next step on their journey to a worldwide cobra wave and techno-disco takeover. The album includes selected vocal features and collaborations from Lena Platonos, Curses, Theus Mago, Kalipo, Sissi Rada and more, and received immense support from the likes of Mixmag, Spiegel, Tsugi, Faze, Inverted Audio, Sonic Seducer, Starwax, Side Line, Ransom Note, Groove, The Sun, Kaput Mag, Electronic Groove, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Lifo, Spotify and Apple Music.

The EP opens with a remix of 'Whispering' by the legendary, Berlin-based duo, Adana Twins (@adanatwins). Since their first big break in 2012, the duo have established a sterling reputation, constantly refining their sound, pushing the boundaries of their musical ambition and evolving organically over time. They are driven by a deep-seated desire to transmit emotion through electronic music, merging Benjamin's love of hip-hop and Friso's passion for club music to produce a series of highly-regarded releases that form the foundation of their global success. As they've grown, the duo have channelled their love for electronic music into their platform, TAU, providing a creative space to expand their sound while also discovering and nurturing new artists, including Local Suicide, who previously released on the label a few years ago. Their remix of 'Whispering' strips back the synths and guitars, placing the bass at the forefront to drive the track while Curses' dark, 80s-inspired vocals dance among Dina's echoing whispers. Signed by Belgian rising talent Strapontin and including remixes by Damon Jee and Thomass Jackson, 10th Hard Fist release is on the way. ‘The End of Logic’, as the title says, is an ode to nonsense for the pleasure of absurdity that strongly echoes today’s context: a world going mad.
 
Being the first vinyl EP of Strapontin, the music here is a solution to escape the widespread pessimism and an injunction to look for happiness. Strapontin flies over a not right-thinking society with derision. More clubby as ever, the record also has something very unusual, a frenetic pace which always comes when we do not expect it.
 
To emphasize the senselessness, the multi-talented artist created with his boyfriend Yvan Megal a video game: ‘Nervous Days’ which is the first track of the EP. The game is a mad rush for virtual recognition, underscoring people's egocentricity.
 
The strong singularity in this piece comes from the cross-disciplinary skills of Patrick Belmont aka Strapontin who is a visual artist, a performer and a producer. He started to release music under Strapontin in 2014 after spending 15 years learning music and studying fine art. Dark can be fun, disco can be sad, violence can be pleasant. Strapontin is not a man afraid of trying new things. Signed to the labels Optimo, I’m A Cliché, la Belle or Nein Records, the Belgian artist has crafted his own style located somewhere in an unknown land between post punk, tribal downtempo and dark disco. With heavy, sensual beats, other-worldly vocals and cavernous basslines, his view of music is adventurous and mindful with a taste of queerness. You probably have caught him lately remixing Karpov Not Kasparov, Golden Bug, Vox Low or brilliantly editing bombs for I’m A Cliché. He’s also part of different dance collectives, usually working as a soundtrack composer, which has influenced his uncompromising music for years. 
With ‘The End of Logic’ Hard Fist signs here his most mature project since it started 3 years ago. This felt like an opportunity for a new artwork collaboration with a cover signed by the Paris-based illustrator Leo Marsal who introduced his own extravagance (with color!) in the Hard Fist universe.

Straighter, Harder, Faster... made to kill the dance floor. Figurehead of the Dark Disco mouvement, Damon Jee takes the EBM and industrial influence of Strapontin’s original to build this monster dancing tool.
