Samo Records present to you 3rd compilation, Cube, a set of 8 tracks that, as usual, go in different and intriguing musical directions. 
New York based label welcome a brand-new group of artists to the label: Anatolian Weapons starts it off with a slow acid burner; Azaria follows with a hypnotic trance-y track; Ruksby picks up the tempo with an acid-infused EBM heavy-hitter; WLDV gets dark and dirty with an Industrial/EBM smasher; Kidaudra offers a high-tempo monster; Orchid delivers a fun electro-italo track; the recently formed Oblako Maranta project contributes a haunting leftfield tune; and Robert E. Livingood wraps things up with a lo-fi psychedelic new wave track.

PREMIERE| Ruksby - Step To Track [Samo] 2021

A-Tweed (@antakaatweed) is the moniker of Ant De Oto, Italian dj and producer based in Rome. During the last couple of years Ant has developed a unique musical aesthetic, for which he is very well respected. Blending a considerable number of stylistic influences, his music is a proper voyage around the globe and as the man himself describes it : Acid Weird Slow Disco.

A-Tweed counts releases among a number of labels such as Hard Fist, Playground, SABI, and Electric Shapes.

Following his remix for Andreas Rund [HEAR0050] and a track alongside Fabio Me Llaman Soltero on our annual compilation [HEAR0052], we warmly welcome Ant back to the house.
HEAR0054 is entitled Serena, and has two main reasons to be - aside from being a pure showcase of Ant sound mastercraft - a very special one. Firstly, Serena is a tribute and a homage by Ant to his wife. Secondly, it is A-Tweed’s first released material, especially imagined and conceived as club-oriented for banging the dancefloors all around. Contending basses, neighboring EBM and Disco, the sound proposed by Ant is refreshing and dark, it is a proper demonstration of stimulating dance music.

The release encompasses two original mixes - Serena Wants To Swim With Sharks and Single Track Roads - alongside two remarkable remixes by two very esteemed names of the scene: the Argentinian Balam and the French Cornelius Doctor.

Single Track Roads is signed by Ant’s dark electronics and weird acid vibes, fasten your seatbelt and embark on the only road left. The psychedelic atmosphere, groovy percussion and hardly intelligible vocals complete the darkness distilled by the track.

A-Tweed - Single Track Roads [HEARec]

For its forthcoming episode, Espacio Cielo presents “Acid Rhythm” by Italian stallion Francesco Mantovani aka Csk (SXDNS080). The seasoned DJ and producer has been on the road for quite some time – since 1991, to be more precise –, which means he has amassed a plethora of influences during his journey. In his works, for instance, it is notable the use of elements from his rave era combined with “Indie” attributes, probably absorbed during more recent times. The result is an interesting concoction with a retro but fresh aura that has been released on vital labels such as Ombra International, Emerald & Doreen, Dogs & Vultures, NEIN, Maleante, and Secret Fusion, just to name a few. 

For his debut on the Spanish powerhouse, Csk, who is also a label owner (Csk:Beat), invited two other fellow honchos for the remixes duties: Tronik Youth (SXDNS050) and Parissior (SXDNS206/FREEDL043), coincidently the bosses of the two imprints on which we released the first instalments of the Takeover series (https://sxdns.de/takeover), NEIN and Espacio Cielo.

Premiered here, Sir Neil Parnell’s interpretation of the title track takes the theme to a darker realm, inhabited by creepy six-legged creatures who love to dance 24/7, hence the necessity of having such a number of limbs. While the original delivers a more upbeat atmosphere, the remix boasts its beauty through a more introspective and acid aura. The main ingredients of the original are still there but now clad with a black cloak.

With these 4 tracks, we find everything that made the history of electro from Kraftwerk to Drexiya or Cybotron!

We take this opportunity to give you a new clue about the Techno producer who hides behind this pseudo, he is based in Hamburg!

ELEKTROTECHNIK - Omega [A-Traction]

The Schrödinger’s Box was finally open, and the cat is ALIVE, biting and kicking! The promising Glasgow-based label welcomes back the genre re-defining chameleons of Hard Ton (SXDNS176) with their own characteristic brand of style-splitting Acid House Disco aka Sylvester on Acid. Working together since 2008, DJ/producer Wawashi and Heavy Metal singer Max can’t get enough of delivering high-quality material. Their next instalment, “Bigger Is Better”, a double EP album, has all the depravity and drama you would expect from these disruptors. Its five original cuts are a true showcase of the duo’s capabilities and inventiveness.

The track we were solicited to premiere is a proper New Age Rave mantra. With its steepling synth stabs, 303 barbs, frenzied percussive elements, and short but powerful lyrics, “Transcend Your Body” is another true peak-time masterpiece by the beloved act and can be safely considered the most attractive piece of the release.

PREMIERE - Timothy J. Fairplay - Yellow Headlights V1 (Archaic Future Sounds)

They called them outsiders; people that lived on the fringes of society and had no interest in traditional ways of living. People had their own opinions of the ways in which they chose to live their lives, not that it phased them in any way, they saw those living "regular" lives as the ones losing out. They thought of them as slaves to the system, doing what others told them. In contrast they thought of themselves as renegades - they carved out their own norms, and lived free of control.

Robi Insinna, better known as Headman, has been slowly teasing out music that will appear on his upcoming album, penned for release on his own Relish Recordings. 'Not About' is the second single to be released - a track that was originally shared as an instrumental all the way back in 2015. This brand new iteration, under its new name, features reworked and additional vocals from Robi, and in true Headman style comes complete with a dub version that veers into Detroit techno. To round off the package, he's invited Italian born producer Mario Resta, who moonlights as Exterminador, to create two special remixes.

The 43rd release of Urge To Dance delivers a pure dance-floor material, courtesy of Omer Bar & Gal Kinnel. Their Pitom EP offers warm, late-summer 'moogie' basslines, finely crafted and tight percussions, jumpy chords and somehow controlled and yet unrelenting energy.

The leading track, Pitom, is a slow-burning, deep and underground house exploration which compels with pulsating groove that moves the floor and minimalistic organic textures. 

Second in line is Od Lo, which carefully builds up and elevates the EP vibes. A real dancefloor weapon, the track blends driving kicks and percussions, similarly pulsating bassline and playful Brazilian vocal which perfectly locks into the track's groove.

Closing the pack on a high-energy note is First Touch - aptly named as the very first creation to emerge from Omer & Gal's debut studio session. Driven by a punchy, powerful kick, the track surges forward with rhythmic stabs and uplifting, almost euphoric synth leads, delivering a peak-time energy that will move you wherever you are !

Vilnius-based label and platform Electric Shapes starts 2021 with the second volume of its acclaimed compilation series “Unreleased Territories”. Featuring an interesting selection of artists from all over the world, such as Jokios Kultūros, Kolomensky, Tassilo Vanhöfen, Facets, Fabio Me Llaman Soltero (SXDNS187), Neud Photo, Anastasia Zems (SXDNS169), Anatolian Weapons, Volta Cab, Wolfstream, and A-Tweed (SXDNS222), just to name a few, the release invites you to this true musical trip through the depths of this mesmerising concoction of sonorities. 

We have the privilege of reviewing the contribution of one of our favourite producers: Ukrainian Volta Cab, currently based in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is acclaimed not only for his productions but also his live sets. His many an influence allows him to competently flirt with several music genres. This time, he decided to go for something more cosmic and trippier. The melodic bell-like lead allied with the atmospheric pads and the arpeggiated synth layer provided a hell of a theme, definitely one of the highlights of the compilation.  

We finish the review with a beautiful message from the label team: “We really hope you enjoyed this musical trip through different parts of our magical planet. While we’re stuck inside during this crazy pandemic, we wish our music has helped you to escape, at least in your mind and soul. Stay healthy and stay alive!”
