Two hot remixes here for James Curd’s collab with The Swiss’ Sidwho? from an all-star team breathing new life into the funky disco killer that dropped in the summer.

Dynamic Dutch duo Fouk go to town on their version, honing in on the arp from the original and pushing its camp Italo disco energy to the max. Their bouncing bassline stomps with attitude over swung percussion, with subtle Rhodes chords adding warmth as the lush choir of vocal harmonies descend. Taking all the swagger of the original and adding a little sunshine into the mix, they’ve done a stellar job.  "We had a blast working on the remix, the original is so much fun!” they beam. “At first we also had a change over to a more housey sound in the middle of the track. However as the arpeggiated lead from the original is super cool, we really wanted to give our remix a bit of an Italo disco feel. After adding the Italo bass we knew this had to be the direction for the whole track. The ‘80s synths, chords and solo added to the vibe!"

Parisian upstarts O.N.O. continue their excellent form on their remix which goes a little more for the jugular than the groovy Fouk mix. There’s a strong ‘80s house/boogie feel to their slinking groove, and the way they lace it with spacey arpeggios is quite scintillating. Dramatic use of the sassy vocal from the intro of the original sets up a high-impact drop, and shining with their usual sleek production values, this remix oozes fun and class.

Israeli producer Nenor delivers a 4-tracker of impeccably produced dancefloor weapons for his second outing on Razor-N-Tape. Since releasing on Moodyman’s legendary Mahogani label a few years back and as part of duo Rabo & Snob, Nenor has been honing his craft in the studio, and now puts his skills on full display on an EP that ranges from the poppy disco house of “How Can I Be Free” to the deep Larry Heard-esque textures of “Do You Remember,” and the gritty underground bangers of  the title track and “Work That.”  He did indeed take his time on this beautifully crafted record, and the result is something quite special.

‘Do You Remember’ now gets a rerub from Tel Aviv’s Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi aka the mighty Red Axes. Warm Italo House chords play with occasional Loons on what could almost be a paradise house cut!

Nenor - Do You Remember (Red Axes Remix)

Oklahoma-based artist HeartWerk describes himself as a producer of "moody House Music from someone who cares", and he fails to disappoint those who expect something different. However, "moody" here has to be understood in a more far-reaching way. His music is definitely not (only) temperamental but also capricious, erratic, mercurial, flighty, bouncy, sensitive... you see what we are doing here, right? The list of adjectives can keep going on and on but we believed we made ourselves clear when it comes to the interpretation of HeartWerk's sonority: It's definitely 100% dance-floor-oriented. Depending on his "mood", he can come up with a proper House, Techno, Electro, or Acid House gem.

After appearing in a bunch of good ol' House Music labels, he now lands on the acclaimed True Romance Records, curated by none other than Tensnake, with a raw & intense single: "Shakuhachi", named after the "Japanese and ancient Chinese longitudinal, end-blown flute that is made of bamboo", according to the Wikipedia, delivers a frantic and upbeat message with its bouncing bassline, 90s-infused piano lead, and melodic Shakuhachi-like layer, a message that says "stop Instagramming, drop this fucking cell phone, and go get wild surrounded by your sweaty future friends on the dance floor".

As a true bastion of feel-good music; Tensnake has continued to spread love across dance floors for many a year via his relentlessly reliable label - True Romance.

With a technicolour back catalogue that has featured the likes of Jozef K, Ben Gomori and Alan Dixon - he now presents the 50th release on the label from none other than Vancouver based stalwart, Jesse Bru.

Fans of Jesse will be acutely aware of hisvability to shuffle feet via nifty, jazz-licked drums, circling samples and rich, soulful grooves. 

Ahead of the full release of the 'Hard To Get' EP - Jesse is set to release the title track as a single...a hypnotic, thumping loop which sets a truncated Funk sample through crispy, organic drums and vocal snippets.

The full EP then follows up with 'Day Dream' - a slightly more pacy offering which sticks a solid House 4/4 under pellucid hats and trippy vocals. Adroit sequencing keeps a sense of pressure building throughout as more vocals are flicked in to rapturous effect. 

'Kuti' then closes things off with a masterclass in sampling. Delicate bongo breaks, swooning keys and gorgeously delayed tones are spread over a bed of field recordings in a manner that soothes and settles the listener into a trance.

An elongated breakdown creates a meditative bed and closes up a perfect pairing of artist and label - a fine way to mark release number 50 on True Romance.

You know you’re doing something very, very right when you get regular Radio 1 airplay and you’ve signed music to Running Back, Permanent Vacation and Correspondant. Then again, Alan Dixon has long been a name on the edge of big-time success, marked out as one to watch by industry taste-makers including Mixmag, Defected and Traxsource. A rock kid until he stepped into a club at 16 and thought ‘this is it,’ Alan initially made a name for himself in his native North East of England before becoming one of the Ministry of Sound resident DJs in Singapore for several years.

You know you’re onto a winner when your supporters range from The Chemical Brothers to Bicep, from Job Jobse to Gerd Janson, the latter who is also on remix duty here. Little is known of the illusive Dorothy, also affectionately known as Django the Bastard. Word is he resides in a secret studio in El Santoro, Los Angeles.

Bronx Warriors is a pumping disco banger from Dixon and Dorothys Fortress. You get the disco hit in seconds as the song starts with some sequenced bass stabs and the classic four to the floor beat. As the beat intensifies, the sound fills every space in the mix and build up to a wonderful melody which screams disco and dance. Moving around your ears the production is top shelf and as the beat drops, every layer that has been teased bursts to life as the drums find power and placement in the centre of the mix. To bring the song round full circle, some rhythmic house keys join the party to add one last punch and get you moving. The dynamics and teasers in this song work wonders, leaving you yearning for more after every drop until finally the big one hits and you can't stay still.

Premiere: Athlete Whippet - Dreams Of Being Alone (Demuja Remix) [House Of Disco]

They say that there are 64 ways to launch yourself into space – whatever space may be. Perhaps you could soar or fly in a rocket or aeroplane beyond the clouds and into the pearly black abyss beyond. Perhaps you could catapult yourself upwards from the earth below or perhaps you could simply fall asleep and drift between the stars a million miles away.

Back down here they all seemed like grand, exciting ideas for the few rather than the many.

However, maybe one day they might all be able to dance together amidst the cosmos and remember a time way back when… back when they were all rooted to the ground.

Amsterdam duo Dam Swindle return with new music on their own Heist Recordings. This time they have invited influential powerhouses of dance music to reimagine their material, a track titled ’64 Ways’ which features Mayer Hawthorne.
