Norway-based duo LAFT serve up ‘New Objectivity’, a thrilling album of live house music with a signature Scandi-twist on the excellent badabing diskos label. Our pick up from this amazing LP is a single which will be release 10th February - Hazel' layers up house drums with conversational synths, pixelated keys and delightful cosmic energy.

Space – the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Shubostar starship. Her mission: To explore strange new music worlds. To seek out new beats and new melodies. To boldly go where no woman or man has gone before.

Remember those words from Star Trek? They do fit quite well for our latest signing, South Korea born Shubostar who presents her »Live At Robert Johnson« debut »Dolphin Dream«. Wait … did we just say dolphin? Well … who knows if there aren't dolphins in space too …

Let's begin with »Queen Millennia«, a melancholic but somehow hopeful piece of new cosmic disco music - a name which suits Shubostar's style of music quite good. She's using disco music as a basis, adding sprinkles of »cosmic sounds« plus a little touch of techno and thus creates her own soundscapes indeed rooted deep in space.

»Dolphin Dream« is up next and suddenly we're not deep in space but deep in the ocean with synthesizer arpeggios all over the place. But this dolphin's dream sounds a bit like as if he's following a starship that dove into the ice cold waters of the Atlantic on its search for Atlantis - beautiful!

»Siestar« is far from sounding like a siesta. It's a highly positive and uplifting tune which will put a big smile on everybody's face for sure when played out loud to an up and down jumping crowd in a club anywhere. It's vibrant, it's lively, it's fast, it has star qualities!

Shubostar changes the beat and the pace a bit for her last track »Éternité«. The tune sounds like a theme song of an 80ies science fiction movie situated in the Paris of 2099. Imagine a foggy and wet November evening with our leading actress, cigarette in her mouth, walking down an old but totally modernized boulevard ablaze with neon lights and you might get close to the feel of this wonderful tune. And aren't lyrics sung in French not just great? Mais oui, bien sûr!

3 - Shubostar - Siestar - Snippet

After debuting on Collective Leisure with a powerful remix for Stack Effect last year, Hard Ton (SXDNS176) is finally back on the rising and shining British label this time with a solo EP: “Synthetic/Safe” delivers two beautiful originals – three if you consider the Dub version of “Safe” an entirely different piece – which come heavily packed with the characteristic and sophisticated chic-à-go-go Disco sonority of the acclaimed Italian duo, who have been quite busy the last few months with well-received appearances on Iptameno Discos, Polari, Live At Robert Johnson, Ruvido, and Belong. The consistency of their work is more than proof they cannot get enough of bringing to life high-quality themes for many different kinds of dance floors. It’s kind of impressive, in our humble fanboy opinion.

Premiered here, the aforementioned “Safe (Dub)” is as dazzling as its original sister – and yes, it can be considered an entirely different piece, not when it comes to the elements used, but the aura. Less lyrical and more acid, the Dub mix manages to deliver a more upbeat message. It’s like when you express yourself twice, using exactly the same words, but in a different tone. If you can’t decide between them: buy both, play both. And before we leave: The nostalgic "Pacific State" sample and the OMG piano layer turned "Safe" one of our favourite works by Hard Ton.

Hell Yeah takes a look through the weird and wonderful lens of Brussels-based Caramel 3000 for its next dance floor trip. He serves up four cuts that collide leftfield electronics, dark disco and ancient cosmic wonderment into captivating new forms.

Caramel 3000 operates at the fringes, where eerie textures, irregular arpeggios and silver-tongued samples all coalesce. His interest in visual culture, semiotics and fiction permeates his musical understanding while he also embraces accidental methods and primitive designs when cooking up his sonic brews.

Opener 'Ottagono Corse' is a lithe, slow-motion workout with gurgling leads and sludgy bass. It's an elastic rhythm that pops and hops as it fixes your gaze down a trippy rabbit hole.
'Super Rapido' is another brilliantly loose assemblage of lumpy drums and withering sci-fi synths. Synthetic bleeps and drips are offset by warm percussion and make for something alluringly exotic. The same slow and heavy, dubbed-out rhythm defines 'Wetlands Tempo,' this time with muffled voices, muttered spoken words and melancholic pads all layered up to perfection. It somehow sounds like an ancient ritualistic dance and futurist disco at the same time before 'Holy Studio' takes you deep into a steamy jungle amongst distant elephant trumpets, squeals and cosmic leads that signal the end of the world.

This is kaleidoscopic music for curious minds; freaky grooves for eccentric dance floors.
