Our favorite Brazilian DJ/selector returns with another episode of his unmissable Tudo Bem show.

2020 has been a challenging one for most of us so music like this is sorely needed. So here is another great excursion of worldwide vibes, past and present maneuvered with gusto by Tahira!

Elado’s @eladomusica lifelong love affair with music has long earned him a reputation as a driving force within his home city scene in Tel Aviv. Avidly collecting records for three decades and DJing for the best part of two, in 2020 he stormed the edit world as his kaleidoscopic palette were heard for the first time through productions on globally-renowned, prominent labels, including Brooklyn-based label Razor-N-Tape.

Catching the music bug from an early age, he took influence from his father who was also a wax enthusiast and had amassed a huge collection of disco records. Elado’s earliest memory of his love for music is vivid, as he recalls his father gifting him a recorded cassette which he rinsed to the point of it meeting a premature end, and he reacted hysterically until his father agreed to make another. By his early teens he’d begun feeding this need to curate and connect tracks by putting together his own mixtapes, and he’d quickly progress to DJing at his father’s parties, soon realising that this could be a vocation.

A trip to Amsterdam in the nineties further set the wheels in motion. Across the next twenty odd years Elado would become a master manipulator in turntablism and a much-touted tastemaker, fully immersing himself in Tel Aviv’s vibrant nightlife, including a residency at hallowed haunt The Block. Armed with a custom-built rotary mixer from Condesa Electronics, he utilises his musical instincts with rich DJ sets that see him seamlessly weave through breakbeat, electro, disco, house & lost grooves from all over the globe.
In recent years his colourful worlds in sound have reached Europe, with revered Canadian icon Eddie C booking him for his Berlin debut. Gigs at Berlin’s ://about blank, Salon Zur Wilden Renate and Bohnengold followed, and beyond the German capital, he has graced the decks in Switzerland and Croatia.

For many years Elado has been an ardent edit enthusiast. He fervidly digs for wax in parallel corners of Europe and South America for the purpose of sourcing obscure, vintage cuts to chop and edit. Until 2020, giving tracks a rerub was a private pursuit with none being released, but as with many artists, the pandemic afforded him time to hone his craft. His genre-melding, globe-trotting debut productions on Eddie C’s Red Motorbike and revered New York imprint Razor-N-Tape put him on the map as a rising star of the edits, with him clocking peer support from Antal, Jacques Renault and Folamore, among more. From downtempo folk to peak time disco and banging acid, the productions are carefully crafted with the intention of amplifying club nights from beginning to end as he is intent on reaching a point where his whole set is exclusively his material, and he’s already halfway there.

A busy release schedule for 2021 brings his set ambitions closer to completion. His distinctive editor’s touch will be heard via Swedish label G.A.M.M, Brazilian outpost Barefoot Beats, Portugal imprint Bonfido Disques, Glasgow-based Secret Squirrel, and an anticipated reappearance on Razor-N-Tape.

Bernardo Pinheiro is one of the most important Brazilian DJs in activity. With more than 20 years of career, he uses his creativity not only to DJ but also produce and compose. From Belém (Pará), Bernardo develops new trends in Tropical, Afro-Latin, and Brazilian music that renew the pop music of big names like Marcos Valle, Caetano Veloso, Fafá de Belém, among others. His productions have already reached bodies and ears in various parts of the world and in the repertoire of vital artists such as Gilles Peterson and Craig Charles (UK). Bernardo’s sets were also heard in important clubs and Brazilian festivals such as Se Rasgum (PA), Vai Tapajós (PA), Marisco Festival (Mareh Music – SP), and RecBeat (PE).

In its 4th​ ​installment, JIN, the Taipei, Taiwan-based label, continues its cosmic journey with a set of tracks that simmer between peak-time dance floor and early morning afterhours vibe.

First up see's Bangkok's Siamese Twins mainstay Sunju Hargun, 1/2 of Mogambo, returning to JIN with two A-side tracks. The first, “Chale”, is a modern ode to classic trance that will leave dancefloors from Bangkok to Berlin in ecstasy. His second track-フーイズカサンドラ("Who is Kassandra'') is a post peak-time 7-minute acid bomb that spins and reverberates in every direction.

The B-side features two remixes of “Chale”. First up, Barcelona's wunderkind Marc Pinol removes The trance needle and rebuilds the track creating a perfectly dubbed-our cosmic trip between musical galaxies. Finishing the E.P., Taipei's own Initials B.B. incorporates guitars samples turning the original into a futuristic, new wave-like slow burner that leaves one floating between planets

Tragic Revolution, a New Beat track from 1988, gets a uptempo edit by Lennart.
The catchy melodies and dark vocoder voices caught his attention and inspired him to give this song a new twist.

Lennart is a 23 year old producer from The Netherlands who started working at Slow Motion in the beginning of 2021. In the last year he got introduced to a lot of new music (including this track) by Franz Scala and Fabrizo Mammarella.
This edit was made last summer in the studios of Sameheads in Berlin and is now available as a free download for you!

Beloved friends, 

After TropiCaldo Sonoro’s classy opening night presented an impeccable set played by our music curator friend, Harari. It’s time to return to Brazilian soil and listen to all the richness from one of the greatest national names in musical selection.  

It’s an honour to announce Benjamin Ferreira (@benjaminferreira)as our guest for the second edition. 

Born in the city of Belem but raised in Sao Paulo, Benjamin Ferreira has been a DJ since the 90’s. He Frequently performs in clubs, parties and Brazilian festivals and even abroad, such as England and Italy. His musical research it’s extensive, focused in house, disco, and techno but also incorporating strong influences from jazz, soul, funk and regional Brazilian, latin and African music. Benjamin is also a producer and has released singles by British labels: Midnight Riot Records and Faze Action Records.  

This edition he’s selected some of his national vinyls to delight us with. 

"When I first received the invitation to perform at Tropicaldo Sonoro, I thought about many different paths for the set. The first obvious choice was a classical set, but after a talk with Ian, I came to the conclusion that it would be much more amusing to simply get out of the box. So that’s the reason I've selected a wide range of mixed styles Brazilian records from the 70’s till the 90’s, and I’ll try to build a nice story with them. 

Including styles like MPB( Brazilian Popular Music), Hip Hop and Disco. Sophisticated and sassy tunes, acoustic and electronic, well known songs and underground ones too. Elis Regina, Roberta Close, Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Fabio Jr, Deborah Blando and Deodato among others. At the end of the day the conductor wire is a dose of joy on each and every song, a relief at these harsh times. I hope you guys enjoy it and that it won't take long for us partying together safely, playing these and other songs on a real dancefloor.

Nascido em Belém e baseado em São Paulo, Benjamin Ferreira é DJ desde meados dos anos 1990. “Quando recebi o convite pra participar do TropiCaldo Sonoro, pensei em diversos caminhos pro set. A primeira escolha foi um set de house clássico mas, conversando com o Ian, cheguei à conclusão de que seria mais divertido sair do lugar comum. Separei uns discos de música brasileira dos anos 70 aos 90 de diversos estilos e tentei dar alguma coerência a essa narrativa. 

Tem MPB, hip hop, disco. Faixas sofisticadas e cafonas, acústicas e eletrônicas, conhecidas e obscuras. Elis Regina, Roberta Close, Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Fabio Jr, Deborah Blando e Deodato, entre outros. No fim das contas (e isso não foi intencional), o fio condutor foi pelo menos alguma dose de alegria em cada uma das músicas, o que vem em boa hora, nesse momento difícil. Espero que gostem e que não demore pra gente poder se aglomerar com segurança, tocando essas e outras numa pista de verdade.
