Mia Kaltes, a Swiss-Italian DJ and musician, has been performing in a variety of clubs, festivals and other events in Europe since 2004. Born into a family of musicians, Mia’s mother is a pianist and she trained as a violinist from the age of 6. She also played the drums as a second instrument. Today, she plays several instruments, for relaxation, on his Dr. Dance Project, and for accompanying Yin Yoga lesson, since 2019, sometimes also with other musicians, for special events. She makes, across Dr. Dance Project, individual or grouped sound healing sessions also since 2019, in the old city of Biel/Bienne.

“Making people dance and offering them a place to escape to, is what makes me tick”, stated Mia. For her, music is very specific in different moments, so she never limits herself to only one kind of musical style. Her guiding principle “Escape Through Music” is all about vibrations. And music is the remedy for everybody.
She already shared the stage with: Feathered Sun, Voodoohop, Chris Schwarzwälder, Mira, Milo Häfliger Canson, Britta Arnold, Nico Sun, Doubtingthomas, Cesare Disorder, Benjamin Fehr, Luluxpo, Manon, Don Ramon, San Marco, Gogo, Arutani, Alexander Robotnick, and many more.

We could hear her play this year in Katerblau and Sisyphos in Berlin. In Milan at BUKA parties, in Zurich at Frieda’s Büxe and at Lush Play – a “deep, slow & emotional” party concept, that is hosted in different underground locations throughout the year. In Bern she played at Kapitel, Frauenraum and Cafete (Reitschule), just to name a few. Furthermore, she’s already been twice to the Chocolate Festival and to Folklor in Lausanne and travelled several times to Prague to play. A confident DJ who has learned to master the dancefloor. You feel her love for music in every one of her sets. She can feel what people want and need in a particular moment and she is always ready for that. She uses her sensibility like a power. Her pleasure is producing and sharing music for dancing, chilling, flying, meditating, or whatever you feel like. One thing is certain, her music is always deep and emotional, regardless of the direction and speed of the music. She plays vinyl whenever possible, but she also plays digital on 4 decks with Traktor using two MIDI controllers.

Experiences/Releases:

DJ, producer, and event originator for the label FINEFOOD RECORDS, since 2011, the song: “Elegance is Destroyed”, created with David Fjörgenson, and remixed by Seph and Ryan Hawkin was the first vinyl release of the label, in 2013. In February 2017, she and her friend, Abused Disco, released the album “Papillon”, composed of two tracks (Techno/Tech House) under the Swiss label: THE LIMBIIC SYSTEM RECORDS.

//Was bedeutet deine Musik für dich?//

Sie ist als Teil meiner Identität eng mit mir verknüpft. Was ich anderen nach außen hin über mich preisgebe, transportiert sich in kuratierten Schwingungen - vom Intro bis zum Outro - und repräsentiert, was mich energetisch macht, Bedeutung hat. Alles was ich musikalisch anderen Menschen ans Herz lege, ist ein Fragment von mir. Manchmal ist es ruhig, kuschlig und flauschig oder langsam und tief, dann vielleicht rasant und ruppig. Ich bin neugierig und interessiert, versuche ein Selbst in neuen Facetten zu finden und Ängste zu überwinden, flexibel zu sein und dieses chaotische Sammelsurium an Bedürfnissen miteinander zu kombinieren. Meine Musik bedeutet also, ich zu sein. Sie zeigt Phasenverschiebungen meines Lebens, sie erzählt Geschichten. Ich teile sie, um mich dir zu öffnen.

//Woher nimmst du deine Inspiration?//
Aus Erinnerungen und Träumen, Kontakt und Gefühl, Raum und Effekt. Inspiration entsteht in den Zwischenräumen der Momente, die ich mit Nähe und Gesprächen, Energie und Frequenz verbinde. Was assoziative Muster auslöst, divers und überraschend ist, Wechselwirkungen erzeugt und meine Emotionen lenkt, ist inspirierend. Wichtig dafür sind Menschen, verschiedenste Musikstile, ganz viel Input, dann runterfahren und sich darauf allein konzentrieren, vom Power- in den Zen-Modus schalten und wieder von vorn. Die Inspiration kommt aus dem Außen, ich nehme sie aus einem bunten, bassigen, instrumentalen Schlaraffenland der Geschichten.

//Was muss sich deiner Meinung nach an der Szene ändern?//
Es braucht mehr Verständnis für Diskriminierungserfahrungen, mehr Willen zuzuhören und sich gegenseitig hochzuziehen. Es muss endlich der Schalter von Buddy bucht Buddy zu Buddy bucht FLINTA* und BIPoC umgelegt werden. Die Szene will inklusiv und rücksichtsvoll, feministisch und empowernd sein. Trotzdem werden institutionelle ausgrenzende und marginalisierende Entscheidungen getroffen. Trotzdem werden persönliche Grenzen überschritten und Schutzräume verletzt. Darum muss die zwar schon offene und liebevolle elektronische Musikszene weniger Ego-zentriert, dafür mehr Support-fokussiert werden. Es liegt an allen, patriarchale Strukturen aufzubrechen, nicht nur intersektional zu denken und die eigenen Privilegien zu checken, sondern die Erkenntnisse auch praktisch umsetzen.

Ein wundervoller Abend in der Rummelsbucht. Sehr guter Sound, ein traumhaftes Willkommenheißen, ein entspanntes Publikum und unfassbar viele Freunde. Ein ausgezeichneter Cocktail für eine gute Zeit. 

Muchas Gracias an Sören und gesamte Mit Dir Bande. Das war echt großartig.

Das Set startet mit dem zweiten Track, da der erste Übergang in die Hose ging. Ich bitte dies in aller Höflichkeit zu entschuldigen.

(Story continued from Witchtape #60)
The little witch was enjoying a very welcome shower under the waterfall at the foot of the mountain.  She was soon shivering from the ice-cold melting water from the glaciers of Mount Hermon, soaking wet and feeling stripped to the bone while at the same time feeling purified by the crystal clear water which was slowly on its way southwards to the lowest place on planet earth… the Dead Sea.  The witch of the North was soon joined by a young teenage witch from the desert in the East and a 6000-year old witch from the Mediterranean shore on the West.  Soon they let themselves float in the water while holding each other in a tender embrace with their legs intertwining.  Despite the freezing cold water, the little witch soon warmed up by the close contact with the two other women.  Her body even started to glow as she felt the youthful energy of the desert witch enter through her skin, where it merged with the immense wisdom of the elder witch.  Soon she felt their powerful collective kundalini schingeling flow through her body, while the 3 women floated towards the middle of the river where they slowly started sinking in a slow spiraling movement, which became faster and faster while the 3 intertwined witches sank deeper and deeper into the abyss.  Yet the little witch felt perfectly at ease in the loving presence of her two sisters witch, while the spiraling movement became faster and faster.  At one point, she didn’t feel the bodies of the other witches anymore.  It was as if the three of them merged into one superbeing and the little witch felt young and old at the same time, black and white, north and south and east and west fused together into one single underwater vortex, while the girl completely lost her sense of time and space.  She had no clue how long they continued spinning around.  Maybe minutes, maybe hours, maybe weeks… until all of a sudden the spiral slowed down and the witches slowly returned back to life… back to reality…

As a professional classical dancer performing everyday since her early age, Nina is all about rhythms and body moves.
Landing in Berlin in the early 2000s right on time for the Bar 25 epoch, she naturally found herself in turning her mind and body upside down on the Spree for endless hours. She quickly understood what the kids want when it comes to underground music and decided to not wait for the disc jokey to press play . She revealed her talent in various reference spots like Chalet, Wilde Renate , Fiese Remise or Ritter Butzke usually extending the timetable limits. Expect dynamic, bounced and groovy melodies to goose bump yourself until you forget your name.
