Venom captures all of my experiences, lessons, and mistakes while a heavy loud smoker, as well as the lifetime worth of information I took in during that period, and using it to my advantage to advance. I wrote this in Humboldt Park at Cal's place during a 72 hour artist lock-in that began on 4/20 and resulted in some, in my humble opinion, classic verses such as this one. The obvious inspiration for this one is the character Venom from the 90s version of the Spiderman cartoon. The less perceivable theme is the transformation experienced by Peter Parker when he was exposed to the symbiote, and how he slowly lost control of himself at the hands of his new abilities.

Wicker Park is the neighborhood I lived in immediately after leaving the hospital when I was born. Though the southside molded my character and taught me everything, I periodically return there for that welcome back feeling I'm always recieved with. There are several alternate recorded versions of this song, the earlier of which feature a couple's laughter during the chorus as opposed to mine and is missing the third verse. While listening I picture places like Picante, Sahar, Smoke Times, The Exchange, and other local businesses I and the other Skighs frequented during our summer in the apartment on Damen and Division.

Too underground to be pop and too pop for the underground. I just like melody and rhythm. Familiar feeling beats and sounds. New sounds. I’m a product of 90s pop and rnb just as much as 2000s hits. I just love music. It’s hard to say no to any idea. I wanna make everything good.
