Tips, tricks and things that young people want you to know!

The largest group to be diagnosed with sexually transmissible infections (STI) in NSW are people aged 15-29 years. GPs are the health professional that young people are most likely to access   for care. GPs not only play a pivotal role in prevention, testing and treatment of STIs, but are hugely influential in normalising and promoting patient access to sexual health care across the lifespan.

Download this podcast to learn from other GPs about approaches and top tips for delivering sexual health care to young people from a range of backgrounds. This includes how to easily start a conversation to offer and conduct sexual health screening. Also featured are young people talking about what matters to them when accessing sexual health care. Simple and practical techniques are included which GPs can use to improve a young person’s experience when accessing General Practice.

HIV Prevention in General Practice (PrEP, PEP, condoms, testing and treatment)

Vaping, or e-cigarette use, is increasing across Australia along with the potential for long-term nicotine addiction. GPs are well placed to identify patients who are vaping and smoking, and to assess nicotine addiction as well as the other harms associated with use. 

This podcast will explore the evolving landscape of e-cigarettes as well as provide practical tips on managing nicotine addiction. STI & HIV Care for Transgender People in General Practice

This is World AIDS Day 2024. The theme for this year is "It starts with me", showing that we all have a role to play in reducing HIV related stigma.

Stigma reduction has become an increasingly important part of the NSW HIV strategy. Though what is it and what can we do about it?

To discuss the research into the detrimental effects of stigma, I am joined by Dr Timothy Broady. He is a senior research fellow from UNSW's Centre for Social Research in Health. This podcast discusses stigma broadly, but mainly focuses on HIV related stigma among healthcare workers.
