I wrote Space Bx Screens about an artist I met on tour in the before lockdown(2020). We stayed in touch via email and FaceTime, and when he sent me a demo of a song he written for me, I responded in kind.

Space Bx Screens was mixed and engineered with love by Matt Parmenter at Ice Cream Factory Studio. We added parts from the realist bois including bass licks by T Justin Schneider, drum stylings of Fred Mandujano, and guitar layers from Jacob Hildebrand.

’Danger’ is a song originally written by Jessie Torrissi and Jimi Heinritz, of Pls Pls Me. Syd helped arrange and produce the demo, aka ‘Liar’. While recording it at Ice Cream Factory Studio with Matt Parmenter, she decided it needed the sound of Superfonícos.
This collaborative single is a brilliant blend of Sydney Wright’s vocal and live-looping acumen and Superfónicos’ Carìbe Soul roots. It tells a 'coming-of-age’ story of a person that is self aware about their faults and potential toxicity.

Sydney Wright’s single-release, ‘Home’ is an ode to the people, places, and feelings that bring us security, solidarity, and refuge. Growing up with her parents and three sisters in small-town Snyder, Texas, Wright knew a  keen sense of community from a young age. After surviving a hit and run in 2018, she was held up by the generosity of friends, family, and strangers with incessant encouragement and financial support.
Home is a space accessible to us all. It can be multiple places at once or completely intangible. Sometimes we have to seek it out for ourselves. Home can be found in the moments when we feel like we belong. 

Home was recorded in one day at The Bubble Recording Studio with Chris ‘Frenchie’ Smith and Einar Pederson. Recording was sponsored by Austin Music Foundation.

My Happy Christmas (War is Over) cover is out! John Lennon and Yoko Ono wrote it in their NYC hotel room in October, 1971. It asks us to think about those who live in fear and calls us to collectively desire peace. If enough people want something to happen, it will. It felt appropriate to sing a song of unity in this year, 2020. I recorded, produced, and mixed it in my home studio. I hope it gives y'all the jingle jangley feels. Happy Holidaze, lovies. <3

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland style, as written for her role as Esther in Meet Me in St Louis. 
She sings it to cheer up her little sister by getting her to think of the possibly better future, not the very painful, lonely present. It feels especially relevant this year, when the world seems so unhinged from reality.
No matter how or with whom you get to spend your holiday, I hope it’s peaceful, and I hope you can feel solidarity in our collective experiences apart. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Lovies.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

West Texas-born Sydney Wright grew up learning and loving music, and she has cultivated a sound that is entirely her own. With a spectrum of influences ranging from early Coldplay, Kimbra, church hymns, and musical cultures that she studied for her UNT degree concentration in Ethnomusicology, it’s a wonder knowing she has said that most of her songs start out as country tunes. Drawing heavily from poly-rhythms, with loops of piano, guitar, beatbox and doo-wops, her performing skills are practiced and mesmerizing, with an impressive knack for creating and looping tracks during live performances. Even listening to just one song off her new debut album, her raw artistry, vulnerability and songwriting prowess speaks volumes. Followers of Sydney’s work are always braced to be surprised, as she has shown time and again that there’s more to her than meets the eye.

After studying piano and picking up the guitar at age 15, Wright quickly found herself writing music and collaborating with recently heartbroken high school friends on breakup songs. Finding that creating songs was a way to connect with people that made her feel useful and heard, Wright left home to study music and live sound, and to continue crafting songs.

Since the success of her debut album ‘Seiche’, Sydney Wright has been hard at work, releasing new music that shows off a different side of the resilient crooner.  “Tenderfoot” is a balls-out blues rock banger that features Sydney’s guitar skills as much as her voice. “DANGER,” on the other hand (recorded with Austin-based Columbian-funk band, Superfónicos) is a funky, rhythm driven dance song that features a gaita solo that wolud make Ron Burgundy blush.
 
With bandmates, Wright's performances can range from duo to quartet performing an amalgamation of live-loops and full arrangements that allude her studio-produced releases.

When she's not on stage, Wright is behind the console mixing performances as a live sound engineer. Her mastery of the physics of sound is apparent in her self-production onstage and in the studio.
