Finally threw together a recording of a sweet little piano piece I wrote in 2012. 

The Music Box

No Skin

Lucien Stark (aka Lucien Ye) is a composer for film and video games with an interest in experimental electronic music. He has scored a number of animations and games, covering a wide range of genres. The technology intensive aspect of video game scoring led him to developing an interest in electronic music, combining musique concrete materials and audio processing to produce programmatic music.

            Lucien is also a classically trained pianist and has been playing since the age of 11. Besides music he also has a fascination with baking sweets, dogs, photography, and long scenic walks. He is currently residing in Valencia, California pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition at the California Institute of the Arts.

           "A Still Moment in Time" was composed in 2016 for Ensemble Vómma's concert at ArtShare LA, which will take place on January 20th 2017. This is a preview recording of Lucien Stark's piece, which will be premiered and performed in its entirety in this upcoming concert. Lucien Stark's work will be premiered alongside premieres of works by Mark Menzies, Henry Webster, David Aguila, and Miller Wrenn.

It wasn't easy the first year.
The milestones keep passing.

The aggregation of misdeeds and
I wasn't feeling it, but I just wanted

It stood up to time, stood up to me.

And Dallas Love was just a question on a
Marked calendar day.

If I were in Mexico, it wouldn't be the same.
I'm not molded by the place unless it has my name.
Wouldn't it be fine if you could trace the path the others made before,
But not with my finger on the map.

I still can't tell you if I'd be in Westwood or Inglewood.
My heart roots for away games in morninghood.
If you haven't read Blake or James, I'm sure
there are always other white men.

But if it had been Mexico, the lines would not have changed.
Still looking at sunsets for my tasting boat stage.
The famous family picture collection, pink anime.

Not a donut or a seahorse or a penguin or a snail.
I could be your black eyes, but you'll never see.
Those glasses can't cure the blindness, just make it comforting.
But if you did leave a trail it must be covering.

I am lost, but Dallas Love is still on my mind.
The books in my bag still aren't mine.

"You're so white...
When I wake up in the middle of the day, I spend a couple hours checking out the news. Gotta stay up-to-date on injustice, so I can post that meme that says I'm woke. And then, of course, I've gotta put that Baldwin quote from the one book I read. But not the militant stuff. We're not Malcolm X or the Black Panthers. Gotta stick to the positive. Although they're influential figures, and they fit my message if I trim around the edges and it's during February. But we've almost said goodbye to this piece-of-shit year, so maybe I'll go for a walk.

You're so white...

I'm living, loving; praying, paying for the next in line. Gotta thank your gentle neighbor for the culture that I'm mining. And I'll play my wacky synth with my extended tuning systems 'cos I'm deeper than these popsters, and I'm also so much smarter. And I have a lot of words, and I can out-condescend. You wouldn't think I was racist or sexist or anti-LGBTQA+. I keep it close to my chest.
