This is the first track I’ve finished — it’s about missing someone, feeling sad and angry at the same time, and feeling the spirit of a country that means a lot to me.

Thanks to all my close friends who gave me open and honest feedback on the 1st version of my song. A special thanks to my friends and dear colleagues in Morocco — your input has meant a lot. I’ve taken out the Muezzin recording; instead, you’ll now hear various field recordings from Marrakech woven into the track — they’re from Jemaa el-Fnaa, one of the most vibrant places I’ve ever experienced.

To my German friends who expressed concerns about cultural appropriation: thank you for your care and for starting that conversation. It’s something I’ve been reflecting on deeply, and I’ve had many thoughtful discussions around it lately.

This song is the result of over a decade of traveling to Morocco — a personal, self-made homage to the people, places, and moments that have shaped that journey. It’s created with the utmost respect for a culture where I’ve always felt welcomed and valued as a guest.

My Arabic friends are celebrating this song. Maybe you can, too.
