It's getting hot in here with three new perreo cuts from Miami's finest Nick León.

Following a string of self-released EPs and an appearance on NAAFI, Nick León returns to Tra Tra Trax later this week - recalling the first sonic encounters on the radio when they were kids and sampling vocals from some of their childhood idols. He's also invited Henzo, Kelman Duran and Maral to put their spin on the tracks. 

Nick León previously released on Tra Tra Trax last year with a collaborative record alongside Bitter Babe who made her production debut. He’s a prolific producer and sound designer in his own right, known for mixing organic textures with club polyrhythms and sci-fi sound design. One of our favourite producers, Nick is also affiliated with Space Tapes Miami and has worked on records with INVT, Lao, Kaxien, LTAV, PRJCTN and more. 

Based in Colombia, Tra Tra Trax is run by Nyksan, Defuse and Veracco and was launched in July 2020 with an EP from DJ Pai. Since then they have released records from Luca Durán and OCTUBRXLIBRV as well as featured remixes from Florentino, AYA, Ikonika, BADSISTA and more.

Uprooted is the second EP from Parisian DJ and producer BJF (@djbjf) to be released on Couvre x Chefs (@couvrexchefs). It follows Iridescent, his debut EP released in 2020. A key member of the collective, label and media Couvre x Chefs, BJF also has to his credit various participations in compilations, (Egregore, XXIII, Couvre x Chefs, Sacrilejio Records, Météo ) and a bunch of thoughtful edits. His productions have been played on Boiler Room, NTS, Rinse FM, Rinse France, BBC, Reprezent, Bruzz, etc.

On Uprooted, BJF affirms his musical direction more than ever: percussive, hybrid, completely club-oriented; full of perfectly mastered samples, carefully articulated with each other.

If since his firsts releases BJF has made percussion his signature, his drum kit on Uprooted has been considerably enriched. Baile funk, dembow, drill, UK funky or dancehall have no secrets for him as a DJ set, but in his productions, the producer defragments these genres and reassembles snippets of them with surgical precision, thus composing his own riddims, blurring labels and boxes.

This new EP also marks a real evolution on the melodic part and on the atmospheres, like the synthetic brass of Baloya, the inimitable grime synth on Jump Riddim, or the Japanese flute on Fogo. The EP includes for the first time a featuring with an MC in the person of the Brazilian AKA AFK on the title Fogo.

Uprooted closes with the energetic Circus, an unclassifiable banger with its gabber kicks, its carioca carnival whistles, its dembow energy and the psychedelic sound in oscillation which flies over the whole track.
