First of all, i wish you happy holidays and a happy new year!

U.N. Owen Was Her was the song that got me into Touhou in the first place, so i have always loved the song a lot, and it's true that there are a lot of arranges of it already, but i felt like i could bring something new to the table by playing around with what the song could be molded into, just like i did in 2018 for Cirno's theme for Cirno Day, i wanted to experiment with how Flandre's theme could be changed to be new and fresh, yet while still being recogniseable and familiar, so i wanted to aim for a Touhou 12-ish inspired style, focussing on some of my favourite elements from that game's music, such as the jazz elements like the progressive time signatures, abundance of key changes, and a bigger emphasis on instruments like the hybrid saw and reed romance on the SD-90, in a way, the saw waves here serves kind of like a replacement for Flandre's usual square waves, which is a bit of a  metaphor for the arrange as a whole; a new and different take on Flandre's theme, but also with respect to the nostalgia and uniqueness of what made UFO's music feel fun and memorable.

There are a lot of references and leitmotifs hidden thorough the arrange, can you find them all?

COSMOTIF - The Fecto Elfilis Medley

This arrangement was commissioned to me by @quickalas on Twitter!
This is an arrangement by me that combines elements of Beloved Tomboyish Daughter, Flowering Night, and Luna Dial (all originaly composed by ZUN), with original elements from my own influences

In a way, this song is a battle between Sakuya and Cirno, they are constantly fighting to be in the lead of the song, i tried to reflect this in the way the melodies switch from Cirno to Sakuya, but i also tried to get a little silly with it and have some of Cirno's melodies be played in the style of Sakuya's themes, and Sakuya's notes be played in the style of Cirno's theme
I also added a bit of Luna Dial as well haha, it's a nice place to add a little original piano solo

The notes from the ZUN songs have been transcribed by ear, i did this on purpose because i wanted to give the song a different production feeling than the original, in a light and subtle way of course, so that this arrangement can feel unique in more ways than just the addition of the new composition elements alone

I know some people value 100% ZUN style accuracy above all, but personally, i find it enjoyable to bring in some elements i feel would make for fun additions to these songs, i've been thinking a lot about what "Touhou style" means to me lately, and i consider it more of a genre than a strict ruleset as of late, and i find this approach to be more enjoyable to be honest, since it allows me to add more elements that i've always wanted to hear in ZUN style songs, kind of like a "Tee Lopes approach", by adding new but fitting elements into familiar nostalgic sounds, i think a lot of interesting and nice new things can be created, i think this kind of experimentation has a real place in Touhou style music as a genre, and should not be discarded

Usually when talking to clients who commission Touhou style songs from me, i ask "how much % pure ZUN style accuracy do you want the song to have?", and usually, the amount tends to be around 60-80% (which means i can use reverse cymbals and anime sparkles, yay!!), and then of course we also talk about which specific game's music style we try to stay the closest to as well, in this case, it was Touhou 9 for example

Beloved Tomboyish Girl (Sangetsusei-ish style)

Hello everyone, and happy Cirno day! (It is 9 September in the Netherlands)
I wanted to arrange Cirno's theme in a kind of "what if" style, i was curious what it could sound like if it was never composed for Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, but for the bonus CD's that came with the Touhou Sangetsusei official manga series.
I know it is not 100% fitting for Sangetsusei style, because i used some elements of my own style that i liked to add, like the glockenspiel in the beginning that plays the melody of Like the Brilliance of Fairies from Eastern and Little Nature Deity (fun fact: did you know that all 3 of the fairies of light had an original theme and a slightly redone version in future CD's? You can notice it especially in the mixing/mastering quality and the drums)
But yes, more about this arrange:
I tried emulating some of the mixing/mastering of the earlier Sangetsusei CD's as opposed to the later ones (because i like them more lol)
For instruments, i just picked instruments i know i could identify (i could not identify the cool magical sounding background instrument in Like the Brilliance of Fairies sadly, if i did, i would have used that!)
But yes, i am quite happy with the instruments here regardless, i particulairly like the saw, i think Sunny Rutile Flection used Hybrid Saw on the SD-90, but i used Flanging Saw for this song because it doesn't sound that different, but the small difference it has was more fitting for the composition of this song i think, it just feels slightly better to me in this case.
I used a lot of SD-90 instruments again in this song, just like old times, i also added Brightness Star in the background for fun.
Most of my new songs don't really make much use of the SD-90 as much as before, but going back to familiar grounds is very fun sometimes, especially when you know what you're doing.
I wanted the song to feel slightly more original than like an arrange, but it is composed with Cirno in mind.

Ah, a bit more about the composition:
This song is mainly based on Sunny Rutile Flection, Like the Brilliance of Fairies, Can't Sleep Because It's Nighttime, and Beloved Tomboyish Daughter, but i wanted it to feel like something new, so i tried to make the main melody quite exciting.
I also had a lot of fun with key changes here, i wanted it to sound like the crazy key changes ZUN used to do.
I also hid some easter eggs here and there, you might recognise them, they are Theme of Eastern Story and ...that song you get recommended a lot.

I also drew Cirno for this video, that was quite fun as well!
