The Syrian Cassette Archives team dive into Syria’s rich musical past in this guest show. Unearthing rare and vibrant cassette recordings from the 1970s to the 2010s, they explore the sounds of dabke, shaabi, classical and beyond. Through collaboration with Syrian communities globally, SCA documents sounds and memories of a musical history that cannot be overlooked and should not be forgotten.

This episode is a Greek & Turkish special – I had the idea when @renavolvo played her Turkish playlist to me a couple of months ago, when we spend some vacation time together in Reggio di Calabria. While she has been digging deeply into turkish 90s dance music, I was totally into greek synth pop from the 90s. So why not putting those two topics together, two countries, that use similar harmonies in their musical heritage and that must have been influencing each other for hundreds or even thousands of years.
