following in the footsteps of 2003's "immortal game," this latest album returns to the esoteric beats, scratchy vinyl samples, and lush synthesizers that are trademarks of the symbion project sound. 

melissa kaplan of UHP (ex-Splashdown) adds her beautiful vocals and lyrics to many of the songs in addition to kasson who sings on quite a few as well. 

overall, the flavor of this album is dark, melancholy, and introspective. this album was also the first chance to mix the album both in stereo and in quad surround.the album comes on both a stereo audio cd and a video dvd containing both the quad surround dts mix in addition to a hi-res 24bit 44.1KHz stereo mix. if you like symbion project in stereo, you can only imagine it spread over 4 speakers and immersed in the soundscape.

I don't remember the show really, but I will never forget sharing that moment in time with them. Kristen was passionate about supporting the LGBTQ cause which is why I chose The Trevor Project. Her father shared his eulogy for Kristen which became inspiration for the song name and lyrics.

Symbion Project interpretation & recording of Ludwig von Beethoven's 2nd movement (Allegretto), Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Opus 92.   Similar in spirit to the original recordings created for the albums "Wound Up by God or the Devil" (2007) and "Contrapasso" (2011),  only vintage and contemporary analog synthesizers were used as the instrumentation.   Inspiration for this recording comes from Wendy Carlos and Tarsem's "The Fall"

For the last 25 years, Symbion project has been electronic music endeavor of Kasson Crooker. During that time, he founded the synthpop band Freezepop, was a member of the electronic rock trio Splashdown, wrote a bunch of music for videogames (FreQuency, Amplitude, Rockband, DDR). The sound of Symbion Project is dark and haunting downtempo and features a large collection of vintage analog synthesizers. Symbion Project is very inspired by the artists Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Wendy Carlos, Vangelis, Air, and Erik Satie.

The first full length Symbion Project cd "Red" came out in 1997 followed by "Immortal Game" with artwork by Stoltze Design. Not being one to be pinned down stylistically, Symbion Project has continued to embed differing styles of electronic music into its overall aesthetic. Early songs incorporated elements of instrumental techno & trance, along with elements of drum & bass. Songs on "Immortal Game" slowed dramatically into hypnotic down-tempo, reminiscent of Boards of Canada & DJ Shadow, with haunting synths & Vangelis-esque ambient soundscapes. "Immortal Game" also features guest vocalists Melissa R Kaplan of Splashdown/Universal Hall Pass & Leah Callahan, alongside the instrumentals. "Wound Up by God or the Devil," was released in early 2007 and was the first foray into a different sound for the band. Inspired by the baroque qualities of vintage synth artist Wendy Carlos (A Clockwork Orange, Tron) and Vangelis (Bladerunner), the Wound Up album became the first in a trilogy of instrumental analog synthesizer releases.

2009 saw the release of the 4th studio album "Misery in Soliloquy" which was released on cd in stereo and on dvd in a quad 4channel surround sound format. This album returned to the downtempo sounds of Immortal Game and heavily featured Melissa R Kaplan and Kasson on vocals. A followup version cd called "Misery in Soliloquy [Exposed]" features the entire album mixed without vocals or drums, allowing the synths, strings, and ambient fx to shine. 2011 saw the release of "Contrapasso" which is a followup to the Wound Up album. This album features a cover of the Dead Can Dance song "Enigma of the Absolute." 

2016 saw the release of Arcadian featuring guest vocalists Jenni Potts, Briana Marela, Markus Junnikkala, and Melissa R Kaplan.

The latest from Symbion Project is "Saturnine" featuring guest vocalist Mars Nord (aka Markus Junnikkala).

Symbion Project was featured in the sony ps2 videogames freQuency & sequel amplitude where you can interact, construct, & remix Symbion Project songs like "funky dope maneuver" & "freQout" & "synthesized."  k*ss*n wrote additional songs for the games under the pseudonyms komputer kontroller, dj hmx, & cosmonaut zero. Freezepop (k*ss*n's other band has contributed music to games like ddr, guitar hero 1&2, Phase for the ipod, and Rockband1&2. symbion project has also been heavily involved in remixes over the last few years, for bands such as Depeche Mode, Lamb, Delerium, Information Society, Universal Hall Pass, and Kodomo.
