Next up in the Awkardly Cast we have a DJ whose name you better remember, the killer Buenos Aires via Amsterdam and now Berlin-based selector @keinblume. Her hyper creative approach to DJing, both in terms of blending all sorts of musical styles as well as impeccable technique (using effect pedals), took our hearts by storm  when she rocked the crowd at our AWK003 release party last autumn. With a mix that spans cutting edge contemporary tracks from the likes of Cassius Select to all time favourites such as Objekt and classic Notorious B.I.G., it is safe to say that she has once again hit the home run!

As a DJ, producer and label head, Felix K’s singular perspective and approach has been an ongoing source of inspiration across the scene since the early 00's. From seminal work on his own array of imprints to key performances at events around the world (including an unforgettable set at a Patterns of Perception party in 2019), Felix’s vision has been, and continues to be, both influential and indelible.

For Patterns of Perception 100, Felix drew upon his vast knowledge (and record collection) to compile an ambitious four-hour mix which traces the spirit and lineage of both fundamental and contemporary sounds across the wider breakbeat/UK scene.
Beginning the journey with foundational dub, Felix layers modern counterpoints of breaks, jungle and dnb, in the process highlighting connections, overlaps and inspirations that have taken place across years, generations and eras.
The result is almost encyclopaedic in its depth and scope, but with an approachable energy that channels the warmth of mixtape culture. It is a  fascinating and compelling undertaking from a true head, with a presence that feels both fresh and timeless.

Patterns of Perception 100 - Felix K

Djoser is the moniker of Egyptian-born producer Shady Daoud. Now based in Washington DC he has risen to prominence through his singular approach to sound design which draws upon influences from Bass and Dubstep alongside his studies of Nubian music. As such, the end result is often fascinating and frantic, his sound unique and unnerving on the dancefloor in the best way.

His last release came out on the prominent record label 3024, the imprint run by Martyn. This in and of itself demonstrates the pedigree of his sound and his careful attention to detail having garnered the respect of a figurehead of the local scene and a renowned musician on the global circuit.

More recently we received a promo copy of his new EP on Loosee which has been on heavy rotation and picked up by a number of DJ's in the know ever since.

All of this bodes very promisingly for an artist we expect is destined for big things - this mixtape is a statement of intent and we are delighted to welcome him to the series. Watch out..

The Paris-raised, Amsterdam-based DJ handpicked a fine direction through dubbed-out steppers, sublime drum rolls and an overall good proportion of filthy bass in a new Rhythmic Culture podcast. A selection that is as cold as it is heart-warming, from an artist that we are happy to call a true RC family member.

"I went to record this mix at the end of a super busy November where I had a lot of late-night/closing sets, and was kind of in that headspace. There's a mixture of old and new tracks - it showcases many different genres from 170 stuff to bassier bits, then into techno, electro, house, and breaks. I wanted to include one of the tracks from the Slacker release on Soft Raw, and since it's a faster tempo, I decided to go about the mix a bit differently than usual by starting off fast and then going slower and back up again. It's the kind of mix where you're not sure where it's going to go next, but when it goes there, it makes sense!"
