Beneath beams of vibrant light shambled a mass of flesh and bone, revenant bodies moving steadily to the sonic reverberations that emanated from the stage before them. Their number grew as they grooved to the few sounds that reached their decaying ears, with the occasional thunderous hit of low frequency energy felling some to the floor. For all that they had seen, for all the horrors that they had undergone in their transformation into their new forms, the creatures gathered under a sense of duty, a pilgrimage, a return to once joyous ground even within the cruel fate that had been bestowed upon them.

Before it all, this had been a festive place, one of exuberant joy where the troubles of the world could be forgotten amongst the masses that gathered in shared sonic experience. There amidst that crowd, one ceased to be one and instead became many, a part of a larger whole that moved in synchronicity to the music before them. Though now held under different circumstances and driven by different sounds, this same energy yet remained as an echo in the gathering creature’s memories, driving them onwards in their journey to reclaim what they once had. As more and more of their kin gathered, this memory propagated itself amongst the once weary crowd, imbuing their bodies with an energy not seen since their days within life. Driven by this energy, the gathered horde moved once again with vigor and resolve, each amplifying the other as a part of their larger whole. Unified once more by their memories of joy, the horde’s fervor let loose into a frenzied swirl. Bodies ricocheted from one another and careened through the air, as each came once again to live without care. All who were there knew joy as they felt it, hurtling through the horde that had turned into a MOSH PIT.

There it was again. That catch, like the world itself had hit a snag, a dropped frame in a frameless realm. The man looked around, long hair floating along as his head turned left and right. No one else had seemed to notice. Was it just him? Was he going crazy? Was his brain failing him? The first few times, he had dismissed it as his distractible nature, but the snag’s increasing frequency was beginning to concern him. With no answer to be found, the man reluctantly shrugged off what he had seen, adjusting his jacket briefly before continuing on his way home.

Yet again, the catch came on completely unexpected. He had been chopping vegetables for dinner, and the knife in his hand had frozen in midair as though it had encountered something completely solid, pausing for an agonizingly long second before continuing on its downward path. It almost cost him his finger this time. The doctors could find nothing wrong with him, and in all other respects his life was perfectly normal and otherwise unremarkable. So why this, this maddening hitch that interrupted it all? Frustrated once more, the man pulled his coat from its hanger and reached for the cigarettes in its pocket. Perhaps, he thought, a relaxing walk would sort this all out.

Emerging from his apartment, the man walked towards one of his favourite spots in the city, the great bridge that spanned the river at its center. Evening was beginning to fall, and the sky and river alike shone with the last rays of the day’s setting sun. The hitches did not come, and the man enjoyed his peaceful view. Relaxed, he decided to return home. He took a single step forwards, and there it was. This time he felt it coming, the hitch, the snag, the catch. This time, he thought, he would catch it. Opening his mind to the hitch’s coming, he grasped mentally for it at the exact moment of it’s arrival. Now, he would finally understand. He would finally have the truth. The man clutched at the hitch tightly in his mind, and it did not pass as the others had. Instead, amidst the coming dusk and fading daylight, the man saw the facade of this very world shatter.

LIVEON makes his EATBRAIN debut with STUTTER, his first full EP on the label following his first appearance on the Divergence 2 compilation in 2019. Bringing with him a set of basslines with sonic capabilities that live up to the EP’s name including tracks with CHRIS.SU & DATI, LIVEON leads the EATBRAIN horde into a new sonic reality with the 5 track STUTTER EP.

The deed was done. The great dragonrider, who had tested the adventurer so, had been vanquished and now lay amongst the ruins of the ancient temple that had once contained his might. For their part the adventurer levitated high above these ruins, surveying now the barren mountain that lay before them. They now possessed the knowledge of the dragon, its rider, and more, having gained everything from the beast’s flight and flaming tongue to the rider’s discipline and control. Their final quest had been accomplished, what more could lay before them?

Yet the adventurer was born under sign of the snake, and thus their passionate resolve bore forth a foremost idea to their mind. With little more than a thought, they began to hew the mountainside into a new and wondrous temple, replacing the ambitious construction of the dragon temple that now lay below. As they sculpted their new temple with mere thoughts, the adventurer’s breath transformed stone into gilt and precious stones of all variety, furnishing the temple’s strong stone halls with all the beauties of the world. With a wave of the adventurer’s hand rain fell from the sky, and with it came trees that sprouted from stone and serpentine vines that crawled across the temple’s facade. The temple now built, the adventurer set to one final task. Chanting a mantra known innately as one of the snake, the adventurer summoned forth first one great serpent, then more and more, further and further until sending the writhing mass into the depths of the temple, to spread and find their homes amongst its nooks and crannies and to lay in wait for the students that would come. As the greatest snake of all wrapped the entire mountain in its scaly embrace, the adventurer looked upon their completed work with satisfaction. This was no mere temple built to honor the haughty dragon. No, this would be where the adventurer would take and train their disciples. This was a place of the Snake, where their ilk could train and learn. This strength, this power, under the adventurer’s rule it would be taught. Here, upon the face of the mountain, the SNAKE MONASTERY was born.
GYDRA present their first full album, SNAKE MONASTERY, to EATBRAIN for the label’s latest release. The culmination of their journey through the trials of their own sonic temple, SNAKE MONASTERY delivers a mammoth fifteen tracks to the EATBRAIN horde, representing an initiation in sound for those not yet devoted to the duo’s monstrous and serpentine form.
