Day 3 is the Shakyamuni mantra. Shakyamuni is the name of the historical Buddha, Gautama, who lived in northern India two and half thousand years ago. He was a human being, like us, who through his own efforts gained a state of complete freedom called Awakening or Enlightenment. When we chant the Shakyamuni mantra we can bring to mind the Buddha’s wisdom and compassion. We can reflect that just as he found freedom, so can we. The mantra is chanted by the Songsters.

Day 15 is the Padmasambhava mantra. Padmasambhava is associated with taking Buddhism to Tibet and transforming demons. When we chant the Padmasambhava mantra we can think of our own demons – the difficult and often painful forces within us – being transformed. We can imagine asking Padmasambhava to help us with our struggles, freeing up and transforming our energies. The mantra is chanted by the Songsters.

21 Day Meditation For Recovery - 15. Padmasambhava Mantra

Modular ambient track created with the setup shown.  Stochastic Inspiration Generator is sequencing a 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, MSW micro Plaits, and Qu-Bit Surface with lots of reverb from a Strymon Starlab and ALA Typhoon.  uPlaits is running through the Strymon Magneto for some dubs delays with lots of feedback at times.  I'm also using an Instruo Lubadh tape looper to sample the Starlab output to create some background atmosphere.  You hear it in the repetitive tidbits.  Hope you like it.

Whoever Client_03 is—their official bio says "neither human nor machine"—they certainly love electro. In the interview below, they say making it is "all I do." The stubbornly anonymous project has been making waves across continents and scenes, introducing audiences used to dubstep, drum & bass and trap to the distinctive joys of electro. Through a series of self-releases dating back to 2019, Client_03 has earned a fanbase with simple graphics and wonderfully jargon-y titles—"Prosperity Stream Divider," "Interpersonal Relationship Assessment"—that more than live up to the genre pastiche with genuinely funky electro grooves. Pitched between loose and robotic, their tracks are what we call rollers: stackable, interlockable and reliable.

This RA Podcast was recorded live at last year's Bass Coast Festival, where the masked producer's set was among the most anticipated. They—or it—didn't disappoint, and here we've got 60 minutes-plus of smooth and occasionally raucous electro that eventually mutates into dubstep, jungle and beyond. There are several spinbacks, tons of Client_03 material new and old and a few select tracks from artists like Sam Binga, Nikki Nair and Fixate. It's the sound of a certain kind of future, as refracted through its past.

It’s ten down for Haŵs, and what better way to celebrate than to have Adam Pits step up for ‘Element X’, a relentless, cutthroat EP that will no doubt leave you gasping for more. With three killer originals and two first-class remixes on the menu, the musical craftsman and his guests deliver a rally of transcendent dancefloor moments exploring the true power behind tension and release. 

The inaugural ‘Gazza’ – made in memoriam of the talented selector and Adam’s late friend Alex T – is a murky, cunning opening containing a rumbling bassline that plumes outwards like the smog over a late-night crowd. ‘Solar Wave’ provides a trippy fusion of acid and euphoria, cresting and diving with an irresistible peak-time groove. On the titular ‘Element X’, the pace slows right down to a nonchalant meander, taking delicate melodies and slinging them above a surly-faced beat. 

Moving onto the remixes, DJ Central dismantles the exultations of ‘Solar Wave’ and revises it into a techy, taut number with a new magnetic drive. Priori’s final offering is delightfully subversive to Adam’s sound; his take on ‘Element X’ is both pensive and anthemic, with a keen sense of space and the sort of epic mood that could easily crown a culminating set. 

All in all, no nonsense goodness from Adam and his team. We couldn’t think of any other way to celebrate this milestone. Indeed, the night is always darkest before dawn.

Commemorating their 10th release OPIA Records turn out a double disc LP from one half of Solär Sound System, Jimmy Batt. The “Retrospection” LP consists of live and direct rave nostalgia with a modern twist, an all round masterclass in production, complimented by a remix from the highly respected, DMX Krew.

Opener “Rainbow Road” immediately ignites the LP, starting as it means to go on, old school drums, and 80s style synths bringing the noise. “Data X” is a serious encounter, liquid like pads pouring into every surface. Coming in with real tenacity is “Inception” constructed for the murky peak times of the club, an enormous sound. The DMX Krew remix of “Inception” stays grounded with its acid tones, a steady and moody affair from one of the finest to ever do it.

The C side is a trip in itself, taking you through the motions. “First Level” creeps into an Italo-eseque ride, a smooth journey with depth and emotion, light on its feet, preparing you for the “Next Level” which picks up the pace slightly, killer electro funk elevating you to the “Final Boss”, which is as mysterious as it is playful. Each of the stages telling their own tale.

As the LP almost draws to a close you are presented with “Objet Violent Non Identifié” another intriguing quest of pacey retro goodness. Completing OPIA010 is “Like A Star” an instant after party classic to make you feel good, rounding this off as an accomplished body of work.

The aptly named “Retrospection” LP soaks in influences from the past, but simultaneously propels the sounds of the future. A fantastic outing from the studio wizard for his debut album and first solo release, marking this milestone of the London label.
