Taking Time - The Scientific Americans - opening track from our 1980 3-song flexi disc "Beyond Fiscal Distress" released on our Tekno Tunes label.  Recorded in June of that year the basement of Downtown Sounds in Northampton, MA on a very hot evening in two live passes onto a TEAC A3340s with dub effects and looping done live & on the fly.  The loud chorus was comprised of about 40 inebriates excorted from Rahar's at closing time and enticed with a case or two of cheap beer to record and shout while I ran around on top of a folding table holding up the words on large flash cards and pointing at the chorus sections.  Instruments are bass, drums, processed guitar, Minimoog, EMS Synthi AKS, and lots of tape echo devices, flangers, EQ, etc.  This is pretty close to how we sounded live in that era and there is only minimal post-processing.  This is taken from a copy of the flexi-disc and opens with the sound of the needle hitting the vinyl.

TakingTime

From the 1980 100-copy, limited-release cassette "Some Dumb F*cks From Somewhere Or Other Beyond" by The Scientific Americans (or SciAms,) a band I played in as Luthor Maggott. Co-written by Elias, O'Donnell, Vine, & Whittemore, a slightly different mix was later released on the ROIR album, Load & Go. This was first composed as an improv on-stage at Rahar's in Northampton, MA in late 1979 and everything in it is basically stolen from somewhere else, starting with the obvious bassline and ending with the outro lyrics. The real disease is plagiarism.  Includes a Roland CR-79 for drums, Synthi AKS, MiniMoog, bass, and guitars.  I'm doing my Luthor thing with the stentorian lead vocal. Fun times.

This is a scratch vocal version of a cover we never played live as the Scientific Americans. Recorded in 1980 on a Teac 3340s, I believe it is just me & Craig O'Donnell; Sean Elias may be in here. We never did this live but recorded many tracks at the time with simple scratch vocals as placeholders.  I love this. MiniMoog, Synthi AKS, Roland CR-78, MXR rack Flanger/Doubler, Korg Stage Echo, and more.

Primates - Sound and Sedatives

Aging, failed electronic musician. Former VP in several boring companies, ALZ primary caregiver for 5 years, now retired and back to trying to practice music daily.  I'm not very good but I have fun.  In the late 70's I was the office manager for the US importer of EMS synths and also sold large Moog modulars, ARP 2500s, Oberheim, and Revox equipment. Vocalist/synthesist with the Scientific Americans, collaborator with the younger Elliott Sharp, guest musician/writer with WKGB.
