This week’s theme (June 14-19) is inspired by hexagram 12, all about stopping before you act, speak or create. It’s about meditation and purposeful inaction. Being aware that we are all social beings to one degree or another, this hexagram points to the importance of withdrawing from the social scene now and then.

You could imagine you are standing still at a gate. Will you go through? Take your time. More importantly, be aware. Is what you’re about to do or say going to be received? Is what you’re thinking about doing or saying feel true to you? If not, keep standing still until you’re in the mood or it feels right to go ahead.

Sometimes you may have the feeling that what you’re about to say will catalyze major change... and this hexagram brings a natural caution. It keeps you safe from being burned at the stake for your radical, challenging, thoughts that are scary to the mainstream! 

Speak and act this coming week, only when it feels right to do so. If you’re not in the mood, don’t bother. Taking a pause and reflecting on what’s important to you is what it's all about before we head into the Summer Solstice on June 21.

This coming week’s energy theme (August 23 - 28) is about intimacy and connection yet it’s not only about sexual intimacy with someone else. The key here is to let yourself be you... now... in connection with all things.

Yet one thing that keeps you from being authentically yourself in the now can be an over identification with the roles you play when connecting with your partner, family and friends or even creative projects.

Are you a pursuer? Or are you the one that’s being pursued? Are you sometimes shy or sometimes bold? Perhaps you feel like you’re the one who’s always breaking up with people... or maybe you’re someone who makes new friends easily. Are you one in whom people confide? Perhaps you are a seducer, a flirt, someone who is so charming, people can't help but project greatness onto you! Or maybe you are the one who is seduced.

You see, we play these kinds of roles, but mostly, we’re not aware that we do. Just remember that you, the Being, are so much more than the roles you play. 

Take this week to notice the habitual roles you play when being intimate with friends, your partner, your family and even your projects. Be aware of how these roles serve you or handicap you. Jot your "aha's" down on the page, if that's your thing. It can be very enlightening!

To take it further... let yourself be drawn in by the parts in you that desire connection with people who are different from you or with projects that scare you. 

There’s a power available this week for you to break through any barriers you may have to connecting more deeply to others or to your creative projects. 

And remember that your mind will want “IN” on this and try to DO something about it. This is why we say, let yourself be... and watch the movie of your life unfold.

When you take this approach, life becomes an adventure once more, the less your mind tries to rule and pre-empt the magic!

Starting this coming Tuesday, we will have the energy of correction coming into our world for a few days.

In general, we all share this very human trait to want to perfect the pattern, but it will be more "in your face" next week. For example, we find the hair in the soup and we want to correct it! We’re dissatisfied with the way we’ve been being mean to our kids or partner or how we’ve been treating our bodies. And we want to change it for the better. 

That’s a good thing, right?

Perfecting the pattern to create a better future is a natural human quality for sure. Yet when the need to correct and perfect tips into definitive standards for how we or others should be, it can feel judgy. It feels judgy because it is! Perhaps you've been on the receiving end of someone else's judgment of your behaviour... not fun. 
So you can see how working to make improvements based on dissatisfaction can so easily tip into judgment that separates people through right and wrong, good and bad.

Ugh!

What can you do with this energy of correction that is inbuilt and seemingly necessary, but can be so judgy and harsh? What's the gift of dissatisfaction?

One of the most palpable fears in all of humanity, especially these days, is the fear of tomorrow. It’s visceral. Palpable. You can taste it. See it. Hear it. Feel it. Smell it.

We live in an era where experts become more expert at obfuscating the truth about money, the state of the environment, where true power sits, etc. This puts people into panic, confusion and fear of the future.

But this week we shine a light on a superpower available to us all. That of intuitive insight or clarity. This is a "gift of penetrating to the core of the now." (Gate 57 Rave I’Ching ~ Ra Uru Hu)

This is a power like a gentle breeze that blows... and if you are acutely present and follow the wind, you can leapfrog the confusion and fear of tomorrow and simply know something for yourself that is true.

Most people aren't willing to fail. We want to be successful at what we do and who we are... but what does that really mean? 

Failure is described as lack of success. And the fear of failure that we humans have today shows up differently than it did for our ancestors. Wired into our DNA is the fear of failure, and our ancestors worked through that fear by creating marriage, families and tribes to ensure the survival of its kind through support and sharing of resources. 

These days, traditional family structures and tribes aren’t what they used to be. So guess what? We’ve projected that built-in fear of failure onto other areas of life... money, status, relationships, our level of fitness, etc.

Money, status and fitness have become the symbols of whether or not we’re successful or we have failed. For example, having greater amounts of money, our mind believes, will keep the fear of failure at bay. So we keep trying to be successful at creating more money, having bigger homes, nicer cars, stronger bodies... all of this is driven by this week’s hexagram 32’s shadow... the fear of failure.

Check in with yourself. 

How do you evaluate your success? Do you look outside of yourself and measure what you have created or how good you are doing compared to _____? Or do you look inside to check in with what's essential for you to give you that inner sense of success, satisfaction, peace and aliveness?

One of the values shared by most people, and highlighted in the upcoming week (Oct 25-30), is about the value of living a meaningful life. The quality of Hexagram 28 of the I’Ching, is about living with meaning and purpose... and the drive to risk everything to find it.

One of the greatest fears embedded in all of humanity’s DNA is the fear of death or purposelessness.  This fear can drive us to shrink our lives out of the fear of dying... or living. And yet this same fear can move and inspire us to take risks... the risks that ensure we experience life to the fullest before our time on earth runs out!

If there’s a poster child for dealing with this fear, it’s poet Henry David Thoreau, beautifully stated in his famous lines from Walden; or, Life in the Woods.

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."

The fear of time running out before you have truly lived! Can you see how this fear can also be a catalyst for you to wake up, to get up and to experience living, rather than thinking about living?

What better theme of the week than that of The Joyous? Energy which fuels the love of life.
Every year at this time, this powerful joyous energy arrives on December 25th. It’s like a life stream that shines through everybody on the planet this week (Dec 25-30). Joy/or not. Vitality/or not.
What’s so great about joy? 
It feels good! 
And it stimulates your immune system.
Feeling low on energy?
Relax and find the humour and lightness of life.
Watch a feel good movie. 
Hang out with children or pets.
Do something that your body loves.
Find joy in the little things.
What brings you joy? 
What is the energy of it in your body? 
Is it bubbly or giddy? 
Humming or peaceful?
How do you know when joy has kissed you?
If you find that you’re being NOT joyful and more critical, you’re likely living a shadow aspect of the joyous. It’s a part of you that’s dissatisfied or nit-picky.
Shadow aspects aren’t wrong, they just keep us simmering at a low vibe when we get stuck in them and forget to shine our light.
For example, if you're critical of your partner, friend or family member, you might have an awareness that they're not living their potential and it frustrates you! But when you stay in that energy of criticism, it's hard to connect to your joy and the love you actually have for them.
Caught up in one of these shadow aspects of Joy? The grounding partner of The Joyous is called Stillness. Taking some quiet time away from all the stimulation can bring you back home to yourself and the quiet joy within.

As we’re wrapping up the Quarter of Duality/Relationship with hexagram 44 this past week, we had a chance to open up to a potential of tapping into a deep instinctive sense for people as we encounter them. On February 1 we were mindful that it was “Imbolc,” the day that marks the Celtic halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. This liminal time is when seeds are springing in the belly of Mother Earth. Almost here... but not quite yet.

In this liminal space, we invite you to listen. 

Why? Because if you’re not listening, you might miss the whispers of your Inner Compass. If you’re too preoccupied with your thoughts and “to-do’s”, you might miss that gentle nudge.

Your inner truth and personal guidance system is much like the seeds springing in the belly of the earth. Hidden, yet full of life and potentiality. Sometimes what you know whispers so softly and swiftly. Are you silent enough and still enough to hear those whispers?

Perhaps you're most familiar with the CLANG that periodically disturbs the hum of your discordant thoughts. You know... those times when your inner guidance system needs to SHOUT, because you've been deaf to its response, whispers and nudges for far too long! Then, when you really need to know... BAM! OUCH!

How about pre-empting the “ouch,” and listening to your personal guidance system in the first place?

Did you ever have a relationship with someone and it didn’t work out well because you were in a relationship with their potential and not them?

Perhaps you stayed longer just to see their potential come to fruition, but as time dragged on, they never really lived the greatness you saw in them. Perhaps you realized that while their potential was palpable, it wasn’t enough to keep you two together. You wanted to experience their gifts in action. Or are you still waiting?

Seeing potential in someone, while it’s a beautiful thing, can also be a relationship trap. Your projections and expectations of them may or may not be true… or you might very well be aware of their potential gifts… BUT also be attached to those gifts and potentials showing up in a particular way that may or may not ever happen.
