Since its emergence the project the has been often labelled as „pitch black techno war funk“ (quoted after an early Boomkat review) and closely associated to what later on would be tagged as the „industrial techno“ – movement. This is possibly due to the radical machine aesthetics Ancient Methods has developed into an unmistakable trademark sound, since more than a decade. However the mechanical framework is – no more, no less – a physical ambassador for a deeper content, there is a profound human emotionality enclosed in the rhythmic shell.

Where to start with @ancient-methods . . . .

I remember back in 2007 after a trip to Hardwax I came back with several coloured 12's with not a great deal on them bar Ancient Methods and 1st, 2nd & 3rd Method on the labels. Upon listening I was immediately hooked and thought at the time this was the most exciting music I had heard coming out of Berlin for quite a while. Fast forward 2 years and the duo (as they were at the time) were on their way to London to play at our 3rd birthday with a load of other Hardwax related artists. Unfortunately they never got to play that set as a couple of nasty chancer thieves literally stole their laptops off the stage before they performed, never to be seen again. The worst thing about this situation was the fact that they both backed up to each other's laptops for their productions which meant a lot of unreleased WIP music was forever lost that morning. 

Needless to say we felt awful but made it as right as we could by giving the profit we made on the night straight to them (along with their fee of course) and Corsica also chipped in a sizeable donation so they were immediately able to buy replacement laptops but it still wrangles me to this day all that lost AM material.

It was however the start of a very long standing relationship between AM & Plex. Michael (bar residents) was the artist that played the most times at our parties  over the years and it became pretty much an annual tradition from our 5th birthday onwards that you would get an Ancient Methods live, dj or hybrid show. He remains a great friend of ours to this day so it's fantastic to finally get one of his sets from Plex out there.

This set is from our 9th birthday and is a really special 90 min journey. Hope you guys like.
