I'm thrilled to present my new melodic techno track, "Ethereal." This project is the result of an intense musical journey exploring deep soundscapes, blending captivating melodies and hypnotic rhythms.

Each note conveys an emotion, each beat invites you to dive into a unique universe, between energy and introspection. I hope this music will transport you as much as it inspired me to create it.

"This podcast is mainly made up of dance-floor focused bangers that I'm liking at the moment - it's a pretty good representation of how I play at the club with a mixture of dark/hard more industrial tracks with some moments of fun and euphoria in between. It starts off pretty dark and industrial, and then calms down and provides some brighter sounds in the middle, returning to the dark sounds at the end. I feel like it also shows the linkages between the different eras of techno - there is tracks from the 90s, from the early- to mid- 2000s and from today in there.

I'm always trying to tell more of a 'story' when I DJ and try to show off a diverse mixture of sounds - and how they relate to one another. Sticking to one style has always been incredibly boring for me - I hate seeing one-dimensional DJ sets and I also hate playing DJ sets in just one style. I think this mix, like all my mixes, reflects that desire for eclecticism in DJing. Really the DJs I look to for inspiration are more those crazy people that could play anything at any time in a set - people like Optimo when it comes to house music, or someone like Parrish Smith with harder sounds".

With his strong dedication to dark EBM sounds he delivered a special mix for our weekly podcast series and once again is presenting the impressive atmosphere and groove of the genre in his very own way.

Since its beginning in 2009, Grounded Theory has grown from a bracing new idea in Berlin techno to an institution of artistic nightlife both at its home and around the continent. Directed with acute vision and unerring judgment, its philosophy extracted from Henning’s long years at the front lines of electronic music, it remains diverse and cutting edge. Mirroring Henning Baer's DJ sets, Grounded Theory combines music from different eras and areas, remaining rooted in techno while shedding light on sounds less frequently heard on Berlin dance floors: forward UK music, experimental electronics, and underground techno names from across the globe, both new and established.   

Following on years of closely-synchronized work with fellow resident Milton Bradley, Henning Baer is now asserting greater independence with innovative new production styles on a recent EP for Taanstaafl Planets. The launch of his own MANHIGH imprint buttresses the foundation of his own work, to be built up alongside a select few whose productions meet the curatorial acumen of one of techno’s finest ears. After esteemed releases on Sonic Groove, K209 and elsewhere, fans worldwide have much to look forward to from a label whose standards match those of Grounded Theory. 

Already a respected artist, Henning’s diligence has transported him from the counter to the shelves of Hardwax and from the floor to the booth of Berghain in regular appearances. Now he is building further upon these impressive accomplishments, profoundly shaping contemporary techno from recent memory into the foreseeable future.

Crystal Geometry has made a huge impact on several spheres of electronic music. The project of French artist Maxime Fabre, he infuses elements of techno, rave, EBM, punk, industrial and black metal to create something that can dominate any dance floor while also sending powerful and often subversive political messages as well. He stormed onto the scene with captivating releases on labels like Area Z and RND. and this year saw the release of the full length masterpiece Senestre, a 2xLP on none other than Sonic Groove.

Persona Non Grata is the alias of Jon Eriksson, a Swedish producer based in Stockholm. He has been producing music since the late 90’s. After producing mostly for himself Persona Non Grata started releasing tracks publicly and got signed for his first EP ”God of snakes” on Rattleznake label in 2019. More releases followed on labels X-IMG, Barro, Nu Body Records and Tjalk records. Persona Non Gratas influences comes from growing up with electro, new beat, acid, EBM and being part of the rave scene in the 90's. 

About the mix:

"The mix contains some of my favorite artists, new tracks mixed with some old, ranging from banging techno, industrial, EBM to New Beat. All that has inspired and influenced me through the years. The feeling and common denominator of the mix is to express the darker, energetic and melancholic vibes that makes you want to move your body. The range of different style showcase my influences from when I was a kid in the 80s to the current time and contains for instance tracks from Unhuman, Suicide Commando, Lhasa, Phase Fatale, Effet Rose, Years Of Denial and some of my own tracks to name a few."

The Forgotten CCXXXVII: Puritan

Number 44 is brought to you by a vinyl-connaisseur, producer and tireless DJ from Hamburg. We are of course referring to Paàl, who provides us with a mix to keep you sane during this lockdown. Paàl started out at DIY raves held in air hangars and derelict structures left over from the fallout of the former DDR. The hardware-afficionado went on to start the label Voitax, a renowned platform for forward-thinking electronic music. He has not only garnered support for his vinyl-only dj-sets, but also for his meticulous production-skills, which have led him to touring Asia, America and even playing at the infamous Berghain.
