I personally feel we are well beyond that point.

The topic I researched for this track was Deepfakes.
Deepfake technology has advanced over the years and so has its potential to harm society.
From swapping the likeness of celebrities in adult entertainment to impersonating politicians, and everything in between!
Will humans continue to use Deepfakes & false content to deceive and coerce each other?
Or will AI become sophisticated enough to start using itself to deceive and coerce humans… 🤔
I hope we don’t have to find out 🤞

The topic I researched for this track was Doomscrolling.

to spend excessive time online scrolling through news or other content that makes one feel sad, anxious, angry, etc.

I chose this topic because smartphone addiction manifests in vastly different ways and I do not personally know anyone that does not have some fashion of screentime.
As time goes on, we rely more on our phones to help us navigate life.
Society is already paving the way to making smartphone ownership a requirement.
Our phones already control us in so many ways and being forced to use them to accomplish more daily activities only exacerbates the idea that smartphones are a need and not a luxury.
& with the use of AI in smartphone tech it’s becoming easier to develop addiction.
Who can blame us? Phones have become the ultimate tool to serve many purposes.
There’s an app for everything and usually an algorithm to match.
As time goes on, the ability for humans to release dopamine from smartphone usage only increases and the amount of time using your favorite app is becoming more celebrated. Paired with AI, humans are quickly turning into algorithmic feeding machines.
Constantly consuming all kinds of information, being force fed personalized content, ads, and being closely monitored to observe and learn which tactics work. 
The tactics that make humans feel the need to keep consuming, to keep feeding, learning how to change our brains, rendering us completely dependent.
Leaving AI unregulated poses many risks for civilization, but don’t worry, feeding the algorithm is completely optional.
