Tower blocks tagged in neon, street-lamps buzzing, gutters slick with oil… that’s the turf of the “yaourt-cats,” rooftop strays who meow a single warped word before melting back into shadow. Over grimy house-techno grooves their paws hammer the pulse, claws sampling the concrete: heavy kicks, filthy subs, synths as sour as a dented tin can. Four tracks built for after-midnight wandering—hood up, head down—guided by phosphorescent eyes toward the rave hiding deep in the alleyways.

Here are two hours of Austropop in all facets from  the record collection of @Stirnband. In his own words: "Vinyl only with one exception: The second track in the intro is the title track of the 1982 debut film Niki Lists "Malaria" aka "Café Malaria", which I happen to see at the beginning of the 90s in Karlsruhe's Schauburg in the presence of the director. Colourful cocktails of various subcultures of the New Wave time get their Schmäh here and arouse my interest for the first time in the peculiarity of the Austrian New Wave in film and music (but it takes until the re-release in 2007 on DVD until I will see the film again). It's also this Schmäh that holds together the eclectic genre term "Austropop" consisting of New Wave, Space Rock, Liedermacher, Poprap, Wiener Blutrausch, Discofunk, Parody and Grotesque.

UV Funk is a radio show which is broadcasted every third Friday from 9:30 pm to 11:00 pm on Dresden based community radio station coloRadio. Radio listeners in Dresden can tune in to the program on 98,3 or 99,4 MHz. Any other listeners can recall it here. The show is hosted by @philipp-demankowski. It’s all about stories, interviews and tracks out of the world of Cosmic Electronic Music.
