A self-described ‘messed up rhythmist’, the
dark and dense musical world and frequencies
of Impak is something which many drum & bass
fans will be familiar with. The individual wave
forms he created always get their own time to
talk. His high levels of bass modulation, as well
as his weird digital textures have drawn in a
global audience which will be waiting for this next release with a keen ear. The international DJ/producer, born out of Spain, explores his digital evolution within each one of his tracks. Technology is the key and his conceptual miscegenation is the tool in which he does this. It’s a way in which he’s explored clubs and festivals in over ten different countries, playing in as many as fifty cities around Europe. His residency in Spain’s Industrial Copera gained him international attention and after releasing on a wide range of record labels, he’s had over twenty releases on the market.
All these numbers are dizzying for an artist, even for one who’s been in the game of production since he was seventeen years old. So, it comes as little surprise that he’d come under the radar of C4C, a genre changing imprint which has been running for over two decades. Having already collaborated with one of its head honchos Optiv, he’s about to unleash his ‘Perceptions’ LP on the C4C imprint.
Featuring ten colossal tracks, from the crashing drum work of ‘Global’, right through to the tech-driven madness of ‘Unhappy End’, Impak goes for the jugular. Collaborations such as Impak and Kung’s ‘Anywhere’, Impak, Optiv and CZA’s ‘Neurons’ and Impact and The Clamps ‘Passengers’ bring a host of other mainstay names into the mix. Whilst standalone records ‘Tremor’ and ‘Mastodon’ continue the harmonic highs and slamming breakdowns which Impak has become renowned for. All-in, the ‘Perceptions’ album is a massive catalogue of work. For it to be made welcome in the home of C4C makes total sense. With their commitment to changing the musical landscape and high-arching production, the combination of C4C and Impak music was a match which they knew would send shockwaves throughout the wider scene.

Japan is a country known for its rich culture, with its musical heritage standing out globally. Many dance music artists have evolved from its subcultures and one of these producers, Nabepro, is about to drench you in his slick sonics through drum & bass imprint 0101 Records. Headed by dark drum & bass stalwart Maztek, who’s made a name for himself over the span of decades through the music he’s released on a variety of different labels, Nabepro has found a home for his new direction. He’s most notably known for his hip hop and R&B beats, although now he’s turned his attention to genres of a faster tempo. This output stands as his first EP influenced by the styles of drum & bass which have influenced the underground. It shows just how diverse his production is and how it’s been able to infiltrate a worldwide marketplace, especially with his vast soundscapes and angry, noisy influences.
‘Crown’ is the first wave of new music which is about to hit listeners and it gives a huge indication into how Nabepro came under the guise of Maztek. From ‘Animals’ through to ‘Ship’ this is an overview of the eclectic song writing which Nabepro has at this disposal. The winding world of ‘Animals’ sets the EP off, whilst ‘Headnod’ follows next with its clanking drum sequences and grinding bass notes. ‘Monsoon’ then comes through with winding bass and lulling arpeggios. ‘Wonk’ takes on a totally different tip, again upping the tempo and creating a twisted world of clanking percussive patches and bleating horns. ‘Ship’ is the closing record and it’s one which is just as chaotic as its forerunners. The track’s impact isn’t lost through its complexity and Nabepro goes for the jugular with gritted teeth, clawing in between its slamming kicks and crunching snares.
For an introduction it’s a dizzying accomplishment to be able to hold your weight against the big guns. Nabepro shows that he’s able to do this through his own lens and it also heightens the versatility of artists debuted throughout the roster of 0101 Records.

For the first part of this two tracker Fragz melds his undeniable penchant for zipping basslines alongside the production might of both Optiv and CZA, who use Fragz technicality whilst zapping their own antiquated, beloved monikers which have enabled the pair to reign supreme over the years. ‘Bump Ahead’ is chaotic, jumping between its switches whilst proving to be an impenetrable dancefloor offering.

On this occasion the protagonists of giving a twist to the original songs are none other than CPTL PNSHMNT, MANIATICS, HEKRIM and for the first time releasing music in our family, THRILLER! . Four technically perfect remixes with colossal work from these artists! We start with the remix of the magnificent MANIATICS to the original track piece "Anubis", an original song made by CPTL PNSHMENT feat RADIOHAZZARD. Adapting to the times Maniatics presents us with a remix of the freshest, and solid, at the same time elegant, giving a 180 degree turn to the theme that this wonderful original track already carried. Strong basses accompanied by explosive synths, powerful rhythms and a totally successful dancefloor flow !. The Next remix is ​​starring by CPTL PNSHMENT, and this time they are the ones who turn the game around on the original Maniatics track, "Fewer Job". A titan Neurofunk track, with unstoppable energy and strength. Puerto Ricans guys express the original theme in an incredible way and making a version 2.0 Supreme!. Strong and solid rhythms, accompanied by a bassline accord to the essence of the bassline of the original track, but elegantly enhancing this one, which was already a masterpiece, making it an absolutely explosive and fantastic remix! We continue with HEKRIM, which repeats again in a new reference, with a remix to MADMATIK of his original song "Psycothrope", Mutating an original track of the most experimental and atmospheric, in a roller pistero akin to the most current and contemporary sound of the genere , and he created a different and much more partying version of this original song already released some time ago. Last but not least, we close the cycle of this Part two of remixes, with a new member that joins the family starting with this remix that he has presented to us! The fourth track starring by THRILLER,  who has managed to transform the abrupt atmosphere and terrifying ecosystem of "Infekt", Original track released some months ago by CPTL PNSHMENT, into a subtle and wonderful full-fledged deep roller. In this thriller remix, he continues to support the essence of the original song, but with less strident and much more technical rhythms, classy bass lines, and turning the atmosphere of this original song into something much deeper and more spatial. A pack of the 4 Diamonds that you cannot miss in your Drum & Bass digital collection !.

[A] Perplex - Let Me Tell Ya:	
Nu Venture Records kick off 2021 with returning artist Perplex and his second EP on the label. Let Me Tell Ya opens the EP and showcases Perplex’s love for in your face Dancefloor Drum & Bass which becomes evident from the moment the beat begins. From the onset teasing vocal hooks work together with Trance inspired arpeggiators, to give the intro its momentum, before paving the way for the lead vocal which sets the tone for this track. As the vocal builds into the drop the arps are reintroduced before the arrival of a highly energetic and bouncy bass riff alongside tight crispy drums.

[B] Perplex - Staring Down The Barrel:
The title track of the EP Staring Down the Barrel, begins with a pitch bent synth within the intro, before intensifying to become the main focus and reveal the menacing intentions of this track. As the once prominent synth withdraws into the background, the lead vocal line then takes command for the build up to the drop. The spoken vocal adds suspense to the occasion as the build up progresses, before emerging as a dark rolling banger with a floor shaking bassline, coupled with aggressive punchy drums.

[C] Perplex - Fears Of The Night:
Perplex presents another signature bass heavy stomper by the name of Fears Of The Night. Commencing with a mischievous drum and mesmerising arp combination, with the addition of dark baselines and the introduction of a lead synth, that dominates early proceedings. The track progresses with the use of lashings of side-chained risers and white noise, before culminating into a drop that is destined to destroy dance floors with its lethal bass riff, hard hitting drums and the eventual re-emergence of  the catchy lead synth.

[D] Perplex - Beast Of Space:
Perplex closes out the EP with Beast Of Space, the final track continuing in a similar dark theme, as the intro begins with a catchy guitar riff coupled with techy stabs and enticing risers. The lead bassline is then gradually revealed whilst the heavy drums build momentum and are slowly faded out, before Beast Of Space drops into a tearing bass, crafted with big wobbles and teasing stabs to complete this dynamic Upfront Drum & Bass EP.
