Voices in my head

Recorded on ninbot.com 04-21-11, my vocal on a partial live composition with:

This is a "Process Work" so to speak, and begins with everyone playing what they hear, then they listen for patterns and messages to play. When I hear something I want to play on I first hum to myself to see if I can play what I hear. I might begin to vocalize or synthesize on syllables, and sometimes interesting messages emerge.

"100 Meeting Places 2007" by Pauline Oliveros and under her direction from RPI was the first 4-way Jacktrip live online music session. Participants include Chris Chafe, Juan-Pablo Caceres, and Justin Yang at Stanford CCRMA, Sarah Weaver's ensembles at Loyola Chicago, and yours truly in Santa Cruz, Synthia Payne, with leaf tine, richard caceres, jamie burkart, and chris mix. This was a 4-way live performance between the four locations over Internet2. My participation was in partial completion of my MFA in Digital Arts and New Media at UC Santa Cruz in 2007. Enjoy!

(You Are) My Muse

My vocal performance here is an example of "topline" singing, and is becoming my signature style it seems. Never meeting in person I remixed a previously recorded jam between some of my favorite musicians and laid down a vocal track on top of it. 

There are some incredibly gifted players on ninbot.com and many thanks to Ninjam's Justin Frankel and Ninbot's Tom Benoist..

I was inspired to write about inner authority after catching Jungkook of BTS' Sleeping Parties on Weverse LIVE in 2023. It is dedicated to BTS and ARMY. 

Remixing and vocalizing on this track began during BTS' military service and was released here as they prepared to return from conscription. 

There were many factors playing into the reawakening and resurrection of my own self-care through music, and the sharing of BTS member's talent and personal lives on camera. Yeah, no one was more surprised than I. 

First, it was Suga and Psy's That That THAT caught my ear. Then JK and Charlie, and I said, hey, that's not Suga. It was like a bolt of lightning. And I was like wtf is this? 

Then I caught the Jimin Effect, and heard V sing and be Extra, and Big Daddy Joon, and Jinshi, and dear Hobi, well I knew there was no turning back. I binge-watched BTS videos with astonishing joy during a very difficult time during our Global Pandemic. We all found enduring togetherness at last.

this is an improvisation on some tracks that were recorded by a band looking for a vocalist. everyone liked it but i don't really have enough time for a band right now. still i really like where this was going...

Most of the songs here were composed live. That is, beginning as a free improvisation I look for form and content to emerge, then I sing it or play what I hear. You are hearing them in a similar way that we heard them as we played them for the first time. A Shared Timezone. Many of the players here and I have never met in person, but have played together for many years via Internet.
