I wrote this song with two of my best friends while going through a terrible breakup with the girl of my dreams. She was older and wanted kids and I just wasn't ready. I was taking care of my parents who were struggling with money while trying to focus on my music. After 5 years, I decided it was time to end it, devastating both of us. I was a mess for months, and felt incredibly guilty that she was in pain as well.

After trying everything to be happy, one day my perspective changed. If I was able to look back at the relationship knowing that there was genuine love, then that's a beautiful experience to have had. "You've Been Loved" came as an ode to "It's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all."
