Eddie Simpson- Big Black Funky Slave

Hot City Bump Band was formed in Australia by the couple Chuck and Margaret McKinney. The album features covers of American hits such as Jimmy Castor’s It’s Just Begun with a percussion break in the middle and the Temptations’ Cloud Nine. Neither reaches the height of the originals, but both are good. Come Together with an added call and response bit at the end backed by percussion, however, adds a nice element to the Stones’ song. There are also some decent originals like Time Is On Your Side with group vocals and a funky backing, the instrumental Kufanya Mapenzi (Making Love), and the lilting Soul of Ain’t Nobody where Chuck and Margaret trade off lead vocal duties.
