SYRUP’s beats arrive fresh baked, sticky, extra thick, and heavy. The Denver, Co resident has an undeniable flair for ferocious sound design and chest rumbling drums. His wicked melodies and massive shifting beats have put him on the radar of the likes of Oddprophet, TVBOO, Lektrique, and Virtual Riot. 

SYRUP - real name Ryan Hatch - was raised by parents who were also band mates. Naturally he was brought up with music as the backdrop to his every day. As he grew so did his connection with music. As a drum and percussion section leader in high school marching band, he not only developed a theoretical foundation but also a deep love for performance. 

As a lifelong lover of hip hop, his first forays into production consisted of referencing his favorite 90’s and 00’s era acts. High on the list was Talib Kweli’s classic Kanye West produced hit “Get By.” Iconic hip hop beats like this were the first he learned to recreate, and provided the base knowledge for his first beats. It wasn’t long before SYRUP found himself on the floor at an Excision show. While he had already been exposed to dance music, the full-on experience was nothing short of life changing. He was humbled by the thought that as a musician and performer he could affect change and construct fresh experiences of sound and sight for others. It was the moment that he decided it was necessary that he manifest his dreams into reality. 

His debut EP “Starlight” dropped in 2019. And since he’s worked tirelessly to build a community around his work. Be it thorough his YouTube production tutorials, his mind-bending DJ mixes, or his face-melting beats, SYRUP has begun to carve out a clearly defined space for himself in the crowded bass music scene. His upcoming release “The Void” has been signed with much praised upstart imprint, Deathstar Cult, and supported by the man who inspired his journey, Excision.
