Due to the tragedies unfolding in Gaza I’ve decided to donate the income for the track the first year to Artsen zonder Grenzen (Doctors without Borders). It's been difficult to watch the situation develop and I hope this is a good way of using my creative output to do something for the people in need. I loved Jungle and DnB since I was a teenager. After a long journey through House and Techno I had a surprising b2b set with the godfather of DnB - Sir Goldie, about 8-9 years ago. We almost didn't played any electronic music that night, but the meeting inspired me to start digging bass music again. As I’m expected to play house and techno on my shows - with such and open format as Upperberry. I saw the chance to show my other passion. There is no deep philosophy behind this mix, just music I dance to, sometimes with hands in the air, sometimes eyes closed.

A clinic in minimal from the elusive Acting Press boss. 

Why do certain sounds cultivate a cult following? Simply put, it's often because they resist easy consumption. PLO Man and his imprint Acting Press lean into this. 

Searching for the Berlin-based DJ and producer, you won’t find much online presence, interviews or conventional PR. What you will find, if you look hard enough, is a catalogue of records and mixes with a kind of tape hiss charm (a spiritual successor to Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, but scuzzier and lighter on its feet).

Founded in 2015, Acting Press once seemed to belong to the short-lived "outsider house" trend, but is now synonymous with a certain strain of modern minimal, one that is analogue, spacious and pointedly opaque. PLO Man's output is equally sparse by design: this week, he joins the RA Podcast with a characteristically elusive style, accompanying the near two-hour mix is a one-answer Q&A that gives almost nothing away.

Stripped-back, ever-so-slightly sleazy and coated in dust, PLO Man's RA Podcast continues that lineage in style. Opening with the featherlight microhouse of Margaret Dygas, RA.988 unfolds into a carefully curated spectrum of minimal, dub and deep techno. Among familiar names—look out for the blinding Rhythm & Sound and Moodymann blend—are deep cuts and left turns alongside the odd outlier, like lovers' rock pioneer Gregory Isaacs.

Like the best of his forebears, PLO Man wants RA.988 to take time for you to settle in. But once you do, you won’t want to leave.

Renata Podcast #141: SYSTEM32

If you're into house music, chances are you will have heard 'Son Of Raw' by the don, Dennis Ferrer. It's a seminal track that features sumptuous pianos, rolling percussion and timeless vocals that simply ooze seduction. Basically, it's a fucking classic.

What's most shocking about the track is that it's now 10-years-old and even though Ferrer was producing long before that, it's one of his best and most recognisable tracks. To celebrate the anniversary, Ferrer's label Objektivity will release a brand new set of remixes that each put a unique spin on the original stomper.

André Hommen's remix keeps the main melodies intact but adds a bassline that doesn't mess around. It adds an extra element of bounce and once the second half of the track hits, those sultry vocals come charging in, sending goosebumps up any real house music fan's spine.
