Relentless techno powerhouses Octave One stride in 2022 with a brand new release that re-affirms their status across two essential tracks. 
2021 was another busy year for the Burden Brothers, who re-introduced the world to their Never On Sunday alias. The project first started in the 90s as an outlet for deeper, more introspective sounds and was fittingly brought back last year to great acclaim. The Detroit duo’s Locus of Control series also hit volume number three and the iconic Octave One live show continued to light up clubs everywhere from Barcelona, Paris and Geneva to LA and New York. Despite that, they still had time to cook up more of their famously soulful techno in the studio, the first two tracks of which are presented here.
Opener ‘The Blue Drift’ surges ahead on waves of rattling metallic synths. Well swung claps bring that irresistible sense of groove, while twisted melodies add raw dynamics. Add in the heavy underlying bass and you have a classic Octave One track that is both physical yet emotional. 
On the flip side is ‘It-Just-Is’ a powerful statement of intent. It’s a stripped back track where house and techno meet - there is a seductive slide to the drums and potency in the turbulent synths which bring the energy. The melody is melancholic and as the emotive pads ring out they lodge deep in your brain to make for another standout cut. 
This vital new release proves Octave One remains right at the forefront of underground music more than 30 years after they started out.

Radio Slave readies a double A-side to mark the 100th release on Rekids this February.

Having recently celebrated ten years, the consistency of music on Matt Edwards’ Rekids is indisputable with releases from Nina Kraviz, Mr. G, David Morales, Peggy Gou and DJ Deep to name a few. Aside
from his A&R abilities Edwards’ extensive understanding of electronic music is evident in his various pseudonyms. Amongst these Radio Slave is easily his most illustrious and most fitting for the seminal label’s milestone 100th release.

Containing all the hallmarks of a Radio Slave production, ‘Another Club’ merges looped vocals with thudding kicks as echoing stabs and infectious hats work their magic. On the flip, ‘Feel The Same’ is a

The  release  opens  with  the  title  track,  The  Mask  Of  Sanity;  Over  8  minutes  of  haunting  synth work and expertly compiled drums that build to a bubbling crescendo of that Reset Robot sound we all know and adore. Track two is Bil'am's Donkey; A harder more-to-the-point weapon with pounding  drums  that  doesn't  mess  around.  Next  up  is Paradise  Lost;  This  is  more  of  a  driving affair with a house twist. Expect to hear this one on repeat across dancefloors this summer. The release  closes  with Oak  Ridge  Capsule;  Mechanical  yet  groovy,  moody  but  danceable,  this  is exactly why we love what Reset Robot encapsulates so much.

The most recent full System 7 album UP (released May 2011) tips the balance a bit in a more techno and tech house direction, still showcasing the unique System 7 sound with ultra modern production and a feeling of positivity. The album was inspired by time spent in Berlin. The club single, taken from UP, is PositiveNoise, a collaboration with Berlin-based A Guy Called Gerald, and features a new deep techno remix from Carl Craig and a powerful remix from Japanese techno star A.Mochi. SYSTEM 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy have had a strong influence on the birth of psychedelic dance music and it’s journey up to the present, forging a unique and bang up-to-date identity on the genre map, in a space where techno, progressive and trance meet – with a healthy side-element of unique quality ambient chill which is connected and reflected in their sister project Mirror System. 

Since the beginning of the 90s System 7 projects have been marked by a series of high powered collaborations, working with Detroit luminaries Derrick May and Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, The Orb, Jam El Mar, Son Kite among others. System 7’s club singles have had outstanding remixes from the likes of Plastikman, James Holden and Dubfire, whose mix of Space Bird was number one on Beatport’s main chart for 2 weeks in 2008.
