Following on from 2011’s joyful techno-orientated album UP, System 7 hit the spot with their new Passion EP – showing that in 2012 they remain on top of their game with their unique blend of trance and techno.

The title track is a powerful techno-trance stormer using all the elements of System 7’s unique sound – a powerful and infectious groove, spacey guitar and occasional psychedelic bubbly electronics - and with additional vocal interventions from Miquette Giraudy

The second track is the darker more techno based “The Eagle” that also adds an acid synth line and occasional reversed guitar.

The third track “Eclipse (System 7 Club Remix)” is connected to a new project System 7 are doing with Japanese rock jam-band Rovo called “Phoenix Rising”, which is based on Rovo making live versions of System 7 tunes and System 7 making techno versions of Rovo tunes. The two bands made a highly successful tour of Japan in 2011 where they morphed between the different versions, inspiring a new collaborative Phoenix Rising album to be released in autumn 2013 and another tour for that time in both Japan and UK/Europe. This track provides a taster – and displays the interesting sonic combination of Steve Hillage’s lead guitar and the electric violin of Rovo’s Yuji Katsui.

The fourth track is a more chilled tech-house remix of “Chihiro 61298” from System 7’s Phoenix album – remixed by Evan Marc (aka Bluetech) who has a huge reputation on the chillout scene and with whom Steve has made numerous collaborations.

System 7’s Passion EP is released digitally on Sept 24th 2012 – with a  Beatport pre-release exclusive from Sept 10th.

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Tassilo Vanhöfen . "Flow My Tears" comes off the new V/A, Altered States Vol. 12, forthcoming on SINCHI. The label returns with the twelfth volume of its influential series, featuring artists from all over the world.

All sales from this not-for-profit release will be donated to the Sinchi Foundation to support Indigenous forest guardians in the Brazilian Amazon.

The release opens with Tassilo Vanhöfen, a visionary musician whose work reflects a profound appreciation for both the organic and synthetic, creating a dynamic interplay that captivates audiences and evokes a sense of introspection. Flow My Tears, an ethereal dance cut inspired by a deep dive into ’90s and 2000s Russian techno, blends nostalgia with emotional depth. Drawing from the genre’s signature vocal-driven, euphoric sound, he channels its distinctive charm, while crafting something uniquely his own.

The first new Electro Clash tracks from Break 3000 since 2003! After a string of re-issues of old gems on Italy’s “Mondo Phase”, the Argentinian label “Calypso’s Dream” and his own “Electron Feel” last year, Break 3000 is finally back with some new original cuts!

The A-side “Electronique” has all the ingredients you would want from a hard-hitting Electro Clash track. EBM style drums and a powerful raw bass line topped with soaring rave leads and pads and added original (Vocoder) vocals by Break 3000 himself. This one is road tested already on dance floors and big systems and a guaranteed crowd pleaser! Second up is the driving “Continua”, leaning more towards Break 3000 Techno classics like “Flash” and “Fix” this filtered rave lead will make a wild crowd go even wilder. Dark and twisted Electro Techno at its best.

The B-side opens with another aspect of the Break 3000 sound spectrum. We look back to the early years here and to songs like “The Wait” and “Spacemaschinenreise” that were produced in 1999. In a Detroit meets Rotterdam styled Electro setting this song uses a lot of the old sounds from 26 years ago, mostly coming from his original EMU sampler used at the time and a great 80s vocal sample gives this track it’s title. We are transported back to the golden era of Cold Wave here. Closing out this new EP is the wonderful Marcello Giordani from Parma, Italy who build a strong reputation with his “Italo Deviance” label over the years. He gives the original “Electronique” a great funky “Proto House” bass line in best “Bobby Orlando” manner, what a brilliant crossover track this one is! With the Vermona drum sounds his - Dark Disco meets Early House - jam will certainly be on many DJ’s want list.

Parisian imprint Lumière Noire continue to navigate the liminal zones of sound art and club culture with their second 4-track various artists compilation 'Flash Vol. 2'. Our pick is the final offering 'H00V' from Frankfurt-based producer Lauer - a track that doesn’t so much announce itself as crash in through the side door. Built on a snarling, rubberized bassline and precision-tooled garage drums, ‘H00V’ flirts with early-2000s UK Garage while keeping one eye locked on the horizon.

The most recent full System 7 album UP (released May 2011) tips the balance a bit in a more techno and tech house direction, still showcasing the unique System 7 sound with ultra modern production and a feeling of positivity. The album was inspired by time spent in Berlin. The club single, taken from UP, is PositiveNoise, a collaboration with Berlin-based A Guy Called Gerald, and features a new deep techno remix from Carl Craig and a powerful remix from Japanese techno star A.Mochi. PositiveNoise also has great new Japanese animation video clip

SYSTEM 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy have had a strong influence on the birth of psychedelic dance music and it’s journey up to the present, forging a unique and bang up-to-date identity on the genre map, in a space where techno, progressive and trance meet – with a healthy side-element of unique quality ambient chill which is connected and reflected in their sister project Mirror System. 

Since the beginning of the 90s System 7 projects have been marked by a series of high powered collaborations, working with Detroit luminaries Derrick May and Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, The Orb, Jam El Mar, Son Kite among others. System 7’s club singles have had outstanding remixes from the likes of Plastikman, James Holden and Dubfire, whose mix of Space Bird was number one on Beatport’s main chart for 2 weeks in 2008.
