Some collaborations are good for a one-off moment in time; a tableau of a time and place shared by two creative individuals who have shared a moment.
Then there are collaborations that are meant for the long haul; there’s substance and connectivity that goes much deeper than the polished, crisp veneer of the music itself.
Something you can tangibly feel. Something that’s more than evident on Guy Mantzur and Roy Rosenfeld’s ‘Hidden Karisma’ EP for Marc Romboy’s Systematic.
Picking up where they left us last year with the epic ‘Epika’ and ‘Deeyo’ on Kompakt, once again the duo arrest our every sense with three diverse slabs of progressive electronic soul. And it kicks off with ‘Systematika’. A track so cosmic and the beautifully restrained you get the feeling it was tailored exquisitely for the label itself, the duo take us on a soft-but-stern ride to the very top of the known galaxy before cutting the chord and letting us freefall back to reality.
The soft chimes and cleverly layered synth surfaces of ‘Hidden Karisma’ follow and the title couldn’t be more fitting: With its harmonic strata, gently folding twists and turns and stately breakdown, it’s the type of track that offers something new on every listen, guaranteeing a sterling sense of uplift that’s fresh every time.
Those in need of darker designs should jump on ‘Kruizer’ as an array of bass textures creep, jump and ooze out from the tall shadows cast by the rolling beats. With bare bone tones and techniques you’d usually expect on a UK bass record, it’s yet another exciting fusion from the Israeli duo and a devilish way of bidding you adieu... For now.
