Henry - Get Me Through

This week we’re very happy to welcome Mr Dom Servini to our Guest Mix series!

Dom is a stalwart of the soulful music scene in London. As co-owner of the Wah Wah 45s record label (this year celebrating its 24th birthday) and resident DJ at their club and live events, as well as being an internationally respected turntablist, Dom knows not only how to rock a party, but also has the knack for finding an exciting new artist or two. He has been responsible for signing Dele Sosimi, Hackney Colliery Band, The Milk, Isaac Birituro & The Rail Abandon and many more.

Dom is also an experienced music journalist, and was singles editor for jazz bible Straight No Chaser from 2003, then its offshoot Shook, followed by his own double-spread in the black music monthly, Echoes magazine. He now writes regularly and provides biographies for record labels across Europe, as well as contributing to several books including the hugely anticipated second edition of Dust & Grooves and the story of Jazzanova’s Sonar Kollektiv Records.

As a radio DJ, Dom hosts his own live monthly radio show on Soho Radio, the Wah Wah 45s Radio show on D95B (Berlin/Belgrade) which won the Mixcloud Best International Funk & Soul Radio Show in recent years, and he’s also recently become a regular on the UK’s Jazz FM.

Over the past three decades Dom has played across the globe, from touring Japan, North America and Australia, to regular gigs in Europe. UK gigs have included residencies with Gilles Peterson as well as the famous South London Soul Train and weekly sets at The Jazz Café where he’s been a resident since 1993. I was lucky enough to see him warm up for Glenn Underground at the JC a few years ago where he played an ace set!

Dom is a festival regular and will be playing at Wilderness, We Out Here, Hospitality On The Beach, Wild Canvas and We Are Love festivals this summer!!  He will also be celebrating 30 years at The Jazz Cafe on July 22nd and Wah Wah Live is at The Jago on July 28th. 

His energetic and open-minded mix of anything soulful, be it afro-beat, jazz, house or hip hop, make him a club favourite and we’re delighted to share his genre hopping mix with you today.

After his partner made an awesome Rolling Selectors mix and decimated the decks at one of our events, Hidden Circuit decided he should show us some of his skills as well. As a long time member of the dnb community, as well as resident at Soul Patrol, Hidden Circuit is well known in the Dutch DnB scene. You can catch him on the decks at the upcoming liquicity summer festival. But before that, enjoy this preview of what this man can do!

Having closed for Black Sun Empire at Impakt Leiden, and playing support for Gridlok and Pythius, he is no stranger to the harder hitting tastes.
