система | system is proud to present a compilation of various Ukrainian artists and performers "SESTRO".

"SESTRO" is a compilation of electronic music from the Odesa-based label система | system, designed to bring together musicians from Ukraine who have been released on our label and performed at events we have organized. For many years we strive to cover a wide, diverse, and adventurous spectrum of Ukrainian music. The goal of the compilation is to directly financially support (ГО Сфера) Sphere (@womenspheresolidarity) which is a Kharkiv-based organization that actively helps women and LGBT+ people from eastern Ukraine in territories that are heavily affected by war. NGO Sphere (ГО Сфера) supplies crisis kits for women in frontline areas and also provides financial assistance to vulnerable groups of women, organizes legal and medical consultations, provides psychological assistance, informational campaigns, and activist events.

"We have never had an experience of working with women in conditions of stress, shock, and grief like today. Now we are trying to gather our experience and the experience of our colleagues from other countries to help deal with the terrible consequences of the survivors" - Anna Sharygina, a representative of NGO Sphere (ГО Сфера).

We believe that giving visibility to Ukrainian culture is an important part of our struggle, because Russia's war against Ukraine is imperialistic in nature, and for three centuries the works of Ukrainian authors have been denied and destroyed.
We will never agree to be dominated. We want, as artists, to give all possible support through our work to the brave volunteers now active in Ukraine, who are heroically fighting to save the most vulnerable.

Мета компіляції — надати пряму матеріальну підтримку організації Сфера (@womenspheresolidarity) з Харкова, що наразі активно допомагає жінкам та ЛГБТ+ людям зі Сходу України на територіях, які сильно страждають від війни. Ми боремося проти Росії, що прагне нас колонізувати, ми боремося за нашу свободу, ми ніколи не погодимося, щоб над нами панували. Ми хочемо, як художниці_ки, своєю роботою надати всю можливу підтримку хоробрим волонтеркам, які діють зараз в Україні та відважно боряться за порятунок найуразливіших груп населення.

"This album reinterprets the classic works of Erik Satie, so the original's mood largely dictates the release's atmosphere. With the help of my arrangements and sound design, in particular granular synthesis, I tried to breathe into these works an additional vibe of magical realism, hypnagogia, pleasant reverie, and warmth of nostalgia, proving that the music of the impressionist era fits perfectly into the modern cultural and emotional context.

Casa Ukrania mainly focuses on more serious and gloomy music, and L'Arc de Langeron, at this stage, operates with a lighter aesthetic - probably because I want to immerse myself in the emotions of childhood in this project. Despite the serious military theme of the first album, I recreated an innocent child's view of events in it, using appropriate instruments and melodic and harmonic content.

More than a hundred years ago, Satie's music was a reaction to the chaotic world with the advent of a new era of technology and cultural shift, attempting to create something stable, aesthetically valuable, and constructive in contrast to political and social extremes. We are currently experiencing similar tectonic shifts - Ukraine is essentially at the center of a global civilizational conflict between an association of authoritarian regimes and international democracy. I also wanted to create something aesthetic, constructive, and value-based to emphasize that we are choosing the side of democratic civilization in this confrontation, where personal development and free culture are not only possible but also integral components of society."

За допомогою власних аранжувань та саунддизайну, зокрема гранулярному синтезу, я намагався вдихнути у ці твори додаткового вайбу магічного реалізму, гіпнагогії, приємних марень і теплоти ностальгії, доводячи, що музика імпресіоністичної епохи цілком вписується в сучасний культурний та емоційний контекст.

Casa Ukrania переважно фокусується на більш серйозній та похмурій музиці, а L’Arc de Langeron на цьому етапі оперує світлішою естетикою — ймовірно через те, що мені хочеться поринати в цьому проєкті в емоції дитинства. Навіть попри серйозну воєнну тематику першого альбому я відтворював у ньому невинний дитячий погляд на події, використовуючи для цього відповідні інструменти та мелодико-гармонічне наповнення.

Музика Саті більше ста років тому була своєрідною реакцією на хаотизацію світу з приходом нової епохи технологій та культурного зсуву, намаганням створити щось стабільне, естетично цінне та конструктивне на противагу політичним та соціальним крайнощам. Ми наразі переживаємо схожі тектонічні зсуви — Україна по суті опинилася в центрі глобального цивілізаційного конфлікту між об’єднанням авторитарних режимів та світовою демократією. Мені так само хотілося створити щось естетичне, конструктивне та ціннісно важливе, щоб підкреслити, що ми обираємо в цьому протистоянні бік демократичної цивілізації, де особистісний розвиток та вільна культура не просто можливі, але й невід’ємні складові суспільства."

The new album by Odesa-based composer Serhii Vovk, aka Del Cano, explores sound as a spatial phenomenon, where audio becomes architecture, and composition serves as a tool for improvisational cartography.

"Exploration Of Space (USING MEDIA IMPROVISA)" emerges at the intersection of structured sound and media improvisation. Polyphonic layering, deep textures, and ritual reverberation create an acoustic ecosystem that unfolds over time.

This album is not merely a collection of compositions but rather a cycle of sonic explorations, where fragments resonate as echoes of past acoustic events reverberating in the present.

The voice of Marta Martyshyn in "Adventus Entitatis" and "Veni ut Spectem" captures the interplay between body and space, words and silence. It is an intervention that integrates the human voice into the morphology of the electroacoustic landscape.

The visual concept by Langley Anderson expands these explorations, translating sonic structures into an artifact-like space where the natural and the digital merge into new forms.

система | system presents release: "Immigration Sounds Like..." EP by Ukrainian/Odesa-born and France/Ukraine-based artist Ivan Samokrutkin.

Ivan Samokrutkin’s "Immigration Sounds Like..." is an intense sonic exploration of forced displacement/forced immigration brought on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, capturing the emotional, psychological, and existential experiences of those uprooted by war and violence. In this release, Ivan reflects on one of the most significant episodes of his life, evoking the deep feelings of loss and dislocation that accompany forced migration. The album immerses the listener in the surreal, often nightmarish reality of being severed from one's homeland, language, and identity, using abstract soundscapes and fragmented melodies to convey these struggles.

This album is composed of sketches recorded in varied environments under uncertain conditions, enhancing its raw, authentic quality. Through personally recorded field sounds gathered across various European locations, Samokrutkin captures the transient, unstable nature of the immigrant's journey. Sounds from train stations, airports, and foreign cities symbolize the continuous adaptation and survival in a disorienting world. Each sound tells a story of movement and resilience, bringing to life the experience of navigating unfamiliar spaces where every noise, language, and rhythm feels alien.

The sounds reflect not only physical displacement but also the internal fragmentation of identity. Samokrutkin explores the gap between past and present, where the immigrant oscillates between longing for what was left behind and the challenges of integrating into an unfamiliar culture. The album also mirrors the surreal experience of life in a foreign “language matrix,” where partial comprehension symbolizes the immigrant's existential struggle: Who am I now in this new and often hostile world? ~ This question echoes throughout, resonating for all who face displacement and identity fragmentation.

Through dissonant melodies, layered field recordings, and polyrhythmic structures, Samokrutkin conveys the fractured nature of the immigrant's life, caught between memory and reality. Improvised sounds and environmental recordings highlight the unpredictable nature of forced migration, from urban chaos to isolated solitude, immersing the listener in displacement's emotional highs and lows. This sound design reflects the immigrant's existence as a fragile and fragmented experience, striving to balance memory and survival in a continuously shifting environment.

"Immigration Sounds Like..." transcends audio; it is a profound reflection on survival and adaptation in an existential crisis. Through its spontaneous recordings, emotional depth, and philosophical exploration, Samokrutkin’s release is both an intimate personal account and a universally resonant study of forced displacement caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. By capturing both the external sounds of foreign places and the internal turmoil of the immigrant’s mind, he invites listeners into a world where everything is uncertain. ~ "На втором мини-альбоме небылснаружи продолжает двигаться по территории шероховатого синти-попа и постпанка. Запись короткая и насыщенная: песни по классическим панк-рецептам, вроде “96000” и “мы”, перемежаются крошечными звуковыми упражнениями, которые можно было бы сравнить со “скитами” в хип-хопе.

“мы” — это исследование выразительных возможностей гитарного звука музыкантом, привыкшим работать в первую очередь с электронными текстурами. Отсюда любование эхом, помехами и шершавостями: гитара в “серотонине” выведена на первый план в духе аутентичного постпанка и временами заглушает сбивчивый речетатив Карины Сёминой, а “калач”, последняя дорожка, наполненная лофайными шумами, звучит как пробуждение от глубокого сна.

Все шесть с половиной треков созданы словно в промежуточном состоянии между сном и бодрствованием или сером пространстве полярной ночи. Если в “мы” зафиксировано, как говорит сам автор, переживание будних, это будни темные, холодные, состоящие из спотыканий и потерь. ~ "On the second EP небылснаружи (beennooutside) continues to move through the territory of gritty synth-pop and post-punk. The recording is short and rich, with songs from classic punk recipes like '96000' and 'we' are punctuated with tiny sound exercises that could be compared with "skits" in hip-hop.

“We” is a study of the expressive possibilities of guitar sound by a musician who is used to working primarily with electronic textures. Hence here is the admiration for echoes, interference and roughness: the guitar in “serotonin” is brought to the fore in the spirit of authentic post-punk and at times drowns out Karina Semina’s confused recitative. “kalach”, which is the last track is filled with lo-fi noises and it sounds like awakening from a deep sleep.

All six and a half tracks are created as if in an intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness or the gray space of the polar night. If, as the author himself says, the experience of weekdays is fixed in “we”, these are dark, cold everyday life days, consisting of stumbling and losses. There is a temptation to call a track “we” an another rethinking of post-punk, but the techniques and tricks of post-punk here are rather slowly defrosted, losing their original color and taste, but instead acquiring homogeneity and new density. Right now this is the most difficult time for Ukraine we decided to continue to share and promote Ukrainian artists' music and to develop the Ukrainian electronic scene. So today we're back to our audience with an incredible album "Kombimezon" by Ukrainian Odesa-based artist Polje aka Viktor Konstantinov. Here is what the artist's saying about his own material:
~ "My name is Viktor, I am a self-taught musician from Odesa, Ukraine. I started recording and posting my first songs on the Internet somewhere around 2013.
Polje is my main alias, under which I release music and perform in the format of electronic live or as a DJ since 2017.
"Kombinezon" (“jumpsuit” in English) is the first LP under this name. This album is a soup that took time to gather ingredients: traveling, sitting at home, trying to experience life in the capital, the opportunity to look at the context of the hometown from the outside, catching influences from art, literature, and more.
It turns out that I belong to the type of musicians who find it difficult to work in one style. I rarely manage to do something whole and at the same time relatively large in volume. But this time I solved this problem for myself: gradually I identified the basic set of sounds, instruments, and ways to use them. Then the sound produced easily absorbed the rest of the colorful community - as a comfortable jumpsuit.

Зараз це найскладніший час для України, та ми вирішили продовжувати релізити та просувати музику українських артистів і розвивати українську електронну сцену. Тож сьогодні ми повертаємося до нашої аудиторії з неймовірним альбомом «Kombinezon» українського одеського виконавця Polje aka Віктора Константинова. Ось що артист каже про власний матеріал:
~ "Мене звати Віктор, я - музикант-самоук із Одеси. Свої перші пісні почав записувати і викладати в інтернет десь у 2013-му році.
Polje - мій основний псевдонім, під яким я публікую свою музику та виступаю в форматі електронного лайву або як ді-джей з 2017-го.
«Kombinezon» - це перший LP під цим ім'ям. Цей альбом є таким супом, збір інгредієнтів до якого потребував часу: мандрування, сидіння вдома, спроби відчути життя в столиці, можливість подивитися на контекст рідного міста зі сторони, виловлювання впливів з мистецтва, літератури тощо.
Так вийшло, що я відношуся до того типу музикантів, яким важко працювати в одному напрямі. Мені рідко вдається зробити щось цільне і водночас відносно велике за обсягом. Але цього разу я вирішив для себе цю проблему: поступово я визначив основний набір звуків, інструментів та шляхів їхнього використання. Далі вироблене звучання легко вдягло в себе решту різнобарвної спільноти - як зручний комбінезон.

UA 90s MIX by Dick Jockey

Ukrainian Field Notes VA is a fundraising compilation with a difference, music with a backstory that gives a first-hand account of the unfolding events since the full-scale Russian invasion in real time, and presents an overview of the changing face of the Ukrainian music scene dictated by blackouts and curfew restrictions.

What started off as an ongoing series of interviews with Ukrainian artists for the experimental music website A Closer Listen has now become a book comprising all 170 interviews conducted over the course of a year mapping out the electronic and experimental scene in Ukraine.

All musicians involved were asked to submit a track composed after February 24, 2022 to mark its publication. The resulting material reflects the diaristic nature of the book and deals with PTSD, displacement, separation, and loss, and shows at the same time the strength and resilience of Ukrainian artists with a meditative and uplifting reach.

The track listing follows the chronological order of the interviews, switching from ambient and electronic to classical and experimental in a seemingly random fashion, but war is chaotic and shattering, or as Serhii Zhadan writes in Sky Above Kharkiv, “War sharply changes ways of seeing, changes feelings.” Ukrainian Field Notes is a testament to the shifting sonic and human landscape.

Ukrainian Field Notes VA - це благодійна фандрайзінгова компіляція, що відрізняється від інших, музика з передісторією, яка розповідає з перших вуст про події, що розгортаються з моменту повномасштабного російського вторгнення в режимі реального часу, і представляє огляд зміни обличчя української музичної сцени, продиктованої відключенням електроенергії та обмеженнями комендантської години.

Те, що починалося як серія інтерв'ю з українськими музикантами для сайту експериментальної музики A Closer Listen, тепер перетворилося на книгу, що містить усі 170 інтерв'ю, взятих протягом року, які окреслюють електронну та експериментальну сцену в Україні.

Щоб відзначити її публікацію, всім музикантам, які брали участь в інтерв'ю, було запропоновано надіслати трек, написаний після 24 лютого 2022 року. Отриманий матеріал відображає щоденниковий характер книги і стосується ПТСР, переміщення, розлуки та втрати, а також демонструє силу та стійкість українських митців з медитативним та піднесеним звучанням.

Ivan Samokrutkin’s "Immigration Sounds Like..." is an intense sonic exploration of forced displacement/forced immigration brought on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, capturing the emotional, psychological, and existential experiences of those uprooted by war and violence. In this release, Ivan reflects on one of the most significant episodes of his life, evoking the deep feelings of loss and dislocation that accompany forced migration. The album immerses the listener in the surreal, often nightmarish reality of being severed from one's homeland, language, and identity, using abstract soundscapes and fragmented melodies to convey these struggles.

This album is composed of sketches recorded in varied environments under uncertain conditions, enhancing its raw, authentic quality. Through personally recorded field sounds gathered across various European locations, Samokrutkin captures the transient, unstable nature of the immigrant's journey. Sounds from train stations, airports, and foreign cities symbolize the continuous adaptation and survival in a disorienting world. Each sound tells a story of movement and resilience, bringing to life the experience of navigating unfamiliar spaces where every noise, language, and rhythm feels alien.

The sounds reflect not only physical displacement but also the internal fragmentation of identity. І тут я згадав, що обіцял для Системи запис. Шо може бути карще ніж побачити себе натхненним? Я одразу зібрав базовий сетап під це діло і полетіли вантейк. "Drones are one of my hobbies. I have a double bass and a bow, and two years ago, I used to escape from anxiety with those sounds [...] In some time I bought a bass bayan (accordion), the same instrument as accordion but with basses on one side. And it was an additional portion of wonderful experiences. Then I produced a homemade soundtrack for a Dune that played in my home, in whatever tonality I wanted. Finally, I fell in love with this sound and began to understand the music that played at the concerts on Wednesday nights in the fall of that year. It occurred to me that I could play a drone concert with modular, which has such a dense textures. And then I remembered that I had promised to record live set @systemnapotvora [...] I assembled a basic setup for this task and produced this live rec in "one take". Now it looks like I will perform this live set [...] In the meantime, you can listen to my drone set for the Odesa-based @systemnapotvora. When I controlled the volumes I thought about Odesa and how great it would be to be there in the future, and I'm sure I'll be back there again someday." ~ @symonenkomusic

система | system presents "Les rêves de Satie" album by Odesa-based artist L’Arc de Langeron. L’Arc de Langeron is a project by Leonid Zhdanov from the Ukrainian duo Casa Ukrania.

"This album reinterprets the classic works of Erik Satie, so the original's mood largely dictates the release's atmosphere. With the help of my arrangements and sound design, in particular granular synthesis, I tried to breathe into these works an additional vibe of magical realism, hypnagogia, pleasant reverie, and warmth of nostalgia, proving that the music of the impressionist era fits perfectly into the modern cultural and emotional context.

Casa Ukrania mainly focuses on more serious and gloomy music, and L'Arc de Langeron, at this stage, operates with a lighter aesthetic - probably because I want to immerse myself in the emotions of childhood in this project. Despite the serious military theme of the first album, I recreated an innocent child's view of events in it, using appropriate instruments and melodic and harmonic content.

More than a hundred years ago, Satie's music was a reaction to the chaotic world with the advent of a new era of technology and cultural shift, attempting to create something stable, aesthetically valuable, and constructive in contrast to political and social extremes. We are currently experiencing similar tectonic shifts - Ukraine is essentially at the center of a global civilizational conflict between an association of authoritarian regimes and international democracy. I also wanted to create something aesthetic, constructive, and value-based to emphasize that we are choosing the side of democratic civilization in this confrontation, where personal development and free culture are not only possible but also integral components of society."

" Цей альбом переосмислює класичні твори Еріка Саті, відтак атмосфера релізу значною мірою диктується настроєм оригіналу. За допомогою власних аранжувань та саунддизайну, зокрема гранулярному синтезу, я намагався вдихнути у ці твори додаткового вайбу магічного реалізму, гіпнагогії, приємних марень і теплоти ностальгії, доводячи, що музика імпресіоністичної епохи цілком вписується в сучасний культурний та емоційний контекст.

Casa Ukrania переважно фокусується на більш серйозній та похмурій музиці, а L’Arc de Langeron на цьому етапі оперує світлішою естетикою — ймовірно через те, що мені хочеться поринати в цьому проєкті в емоції дитинства. Навіть попри серйозну воєнну тематику першого альбому я відтворював у ньому невинний дитячий погляд на події, використовуючи для цього відповідні інструменти та мелодико-гармонічне наповнення.

Музика Саті більше ста років тому була своєрідною реакцією на хаотизацію світу з приходом нової епохи технологій та культурного зсуву, намаганням створити щось стабільне, естетично цінне та конструктивне на противагу політичним та соціальним крайнощам. Ми наразі переживаємо схожі тектонічні зсуви — Україна по суті опинилася в центрі глобального цивілізаційного конфлікту між об’єднанням авторитарних режимів та світовою демократією. Мені так само хотілося створити щось естетичне, конструктивне та ціннісно важливе, щоб підкреслити, що ми обираємо в цьому протистоянні бік демократичної цивілізації, де особистісний розвиток та вільна культура не просто можливі, але й невід’ємні складові суспільства."

"Exploration Of Space (USING MEDIA IMPROVISA)" emerges at the intersection of structured sound and media improvisation. Polyphonic layering, deep textures, and ritual reverberation create an acoustic ecosystem that unfolds over time.

This album is not merely a collection of compositions but rather a cycle of sonic explorations, where fragments resonate as echoes of past acoustic events reverberating in the present.

The voice of Marta Martyshyn in "Adventus Entitatis" and "Veni ut Spectem" captures the interplay between body and space, words and silence. It is an intervention that integrates the human voice into the morphology of the electroacoustic landscape.

Cortex Jammes - Tales of the Borderlands / systemnapotvora.live

A live jams collection of ritual psychedelic soundscapes that have absorbed the power, calm and silence of some Ukrainian sacred sites - Devil’s Rocks of Vynnyky forest, Ternoshory archaeo-astronomical complex, ancient cave monasteries of Bakota and Rozgirche, a lonely Buddhist temple on top of a Carpathian mountains, Trakhtemyriv peninsula etc. “The way this place makes you feel", that is, it contains a set of ambient sensations that allows you to feel the present moment of time in this place more deeply. Although it is impossible to explain in words, it is much easier to feel and hear.

The mood of the music is a warm, captivating darkness in which otherworldly and abstract sound objects move, greeting either the works of Rapoon or Rod Modell, or the 90’s ambient rave improvised jams of Ambient Temple of Imagination.
