Not only an effort to write a vocal track, but to write using a synthesized vocalist. Synth V has a ton of potential and the phonemes sound a lot more natural than any Vocaloid to my ear, but alas, there is only a single english vocalist so far.

With this track, I wanted to see what would result from shamelessly smashing some of my favorite sounds together underneath those synth vocals- those elements being dense pad samples, lush chords with neat modulations, bitcrushed breaks, granular delays, and gritty bass, all wrapped up in a quick halftime tempo and a lovely artificial aesthetic. The mix is rather dense and it turned out to be a bit challenging to decipher some of the lyrics, but you know, I am strangely proud of the result.

Chords in the verse are Em11-C#m11-G/A-Fmaj7. With the spices removed it might resemble a descenfing thirds motion, Em-C-Am-F in E phrygian; but the second chord is replaced with the chromatic mediant C#m, which immediately adds chili powder to the adjecent chords and may cause stanky face. Though what really gets me is the G/A to Fmaj7, the G/A has a suspended feeling that resolves in such a pretty way- I urge you to try them out and steal the cadence for yourself.

one of two tracks I made for Sample Pack Contest 11. Got 6th place out of 73!

I was once again very surprised that something this unusual was this well received, but I'm certainly thankful for that.

This track is somewhat a representation of a condition I've been experiencing lately, here was my full commentary on it:

"not bothering to hide my identity with this one at all haha. another VERY personal entry of similar theme to the werebeast escape one from spc9: 

Certain current circumstances have caused me to experience a fairly severe psychological condition where I involuntarily scream as loud as possible at basically unpredictable complete random about 100 times a day. This is usually coupled with reliving a lot of the worst most traumatic memories of my life (other bad symptoms too, involuntarily thrashing/twitches/seizure-like things). it's been pretty debilitating and painful, though also makes me think about my past a lot, and the more positive nostalgia that sometimes comes with that. 

Anyways I wanted to represent that experience with a piece of music so that is why this blasts your ears with painful harsh sounds at random times. Wanted to make the listener feel like they were fading into reliving traumatic memories of being the result of a cruel lab experiment (to make it relevant to my "weird chimera lab experiment creature" music identity), and everything that comes with the experience of a dysfunctional response to that past. 

so far i've heard some people express different stories of very different interpretation, and that's wonderful too! at the very least a common response is that it has a strong "dark lab" atmosphere and a strong narrative told, even if the narrative people interpret is different, and I find that cool to hear! 

was worried the reception would be more commonly negative for it's weirdness, so i'm very thankful for the positive compliments I've seen for it so far! 

pretty happy with how this turned out! was all made within a day under the assumption of it being a last minute entry for the first given deadline. though feel i mixed some elements a bit haphazardly that doesn't give the punch they were intended to be felt with and that's definitely something I'd have adjusted if i'd given myself more time. 

oh also in tradition with my older alliterative titles in spc I forgot the word "Stasis" before the word cylinder in the title! "
