'With their second vinyl release of 2013 Goon Club Allstars continue to carve out their own space in club-focused music, with Mssingno’s haunting debut 12” EP pitting cold, melodic synths and deftly cut vocal samples against growling basslines and off-kilter drum patterns. As well as being responsible for the huge ‘Brandy Flip’, a track played out across radio and clubs through 2013, last year the London-based producer scored some deserved attention producing ‘Drugs Don’t Work’ for masked Tottenham MC Cas (formerly Castro). His icy, romantic flip of ‘The Verve’ tune of the same name provided the ideal backdrop for a rare glimpse into Cas’ self-inflicted weaknesses and here proves to be just as effective at stirring the emotions without the aid of a vocal narrative.

Whether he’s toying with the slick ‘n’ sensual, as is unashamedly evident on the heated 808-driven opener ‘Skeezers’, or bittersweet quasi-R&B twisters on one of the year’s more unlikely watery-eyed earworms ‘XE2’, Mssingno’s first excursion on wax is earnestly dedicated to the feels; all of them. Case in point: ‘XE3’s weary-hands-in-the-air sunrise synths juxtaposed perfectly by ‘124th’s hood-up cap-down gulliness.

It may be a dangerously well-trodden arena, blending bold synths with pitch-bended vocals, but few producers in the last few years can hold a candle to Mssingno’s craftsmanship and knack for progression. Simply put, Mssingno is one of those rare ones, the ones that leave a mark and his debut serves as a bold statement of intent for both himself, and the rest of the Goons.'

The release of PATCH 2 signals a new phase for SYNES, an exciting up-and-coming music label based in London. This 14-track compilation is a culmination of years of work, building on previous collaborations with an exciting community of artists to regularly release singles and grow their monthly SYNES Radio show. PATCH 2 boasts a wide range of genres and influences, bringing together producers spanning from Arizona to Finland and combining pulsating, weighty, grime-inflected vibes with soft, organic elements. 

      In the year since the release of PATCH 1, SYNES have put out singles from FVBIO, Eone, Vexxy, Pholo x Jato, and HEATDEATH1992, with each building on the last and resulting in an impressive overall catalogue. Some of these artists make a big return with tracks on PATCH 2, along with others from the likes of Sombra, Montblanko, Yedgar and B:Thorough. With techy bass riffs and tremoring melodies, PATCH 2 maintains a fever pitch throughout and forms an electrifying and gratifying whole, offering a compelling glimpse into the future of grime and bass music.
