Solid Steel in association with Serato (24th April) This week we launch a brand new Solid Steel website at http://solidsteel.net and we're delighted to welcome back two guests Caribou and Colleen with exclusive new mixes to celebrate. They both appeared in the same show 10 years ago and on the new website you can hear their 2005 mixes in the Featured section, along with Caribou’s mix from 2000 when he was still known as Manitoba. Also released this week will be a mix from Matthew Herbert as Doctor Rockit (1995), Autechre mix (1997) and a Juan Atkins mix and interview from 1988, plus selected shows from the last 27 years and many more to come each week.
We even have new Solid Steel jingles for the first time in ages, and, over the coming weeks, you can hear what the likes of Luke Vibert, next week's guest Four Tet and FaltyDL (which starts the show this week) have come up with.

In Hour 2, Colleen is celebrating the release of her latest album 'Captain of None' which is out now on Thrill Jockey. It's a special "Thank You Jamaica" mix that is clearly dear to her heart and she tells us a little more about this love affair;

"My love story with Jamaican music is in three parts: first as a child in the late 70s/early 80s, when my parents bought (probably by accident) a tape containing mostly Lee Perry songs from 1976, which we would listen to on long car trips. Then in my mid-20s when I moved to Paris and bought and borrowed dozens of Jamaican reissues from the Paris music libraries – it was the first time I was listening to the music with a musician’s ear, but given my way of making music at that time (sampling from records) I ended up concentrating on other genres which could be of use as more “unrecognizable” sample-fodder. But in late 2012, just as I was recording my fourth album The Weighing of the Heart, I rediscovered the music and this time it hit me really deep – it was like my ears were finally in the right condition to really hear the music in all its amazing inventiveness, and I had also reached a point in my own way of making music where finally I could see how the Jamaican sense of freedom and experimentation could infuse my own music – and from that moment I knew in what direction I would take my next album, which became Captain of None.
This mix contains some of my favourite Jamaican music and showcases its incredible diversity, with everyone (singers, musicians, producers) at the top of their game and displaying real individuality. "

In Aztec mythology, Chalchiuhtlatonal was a god of water. He looks over the sea and protects the animals living in it. It is said that he granted the gift of water to one human in 10,000 years to help look after the sea. 

He was related to Chalchiuhtlicue, goddess of running water and springs, rivers and lakes. She also was the protectress of children and new-borns, fishermen and crops. 

Some of Her many manifestations include: Acuecueyotl, "Woman Who Makes the Waves Swell," the Ocean-Goddess, invoked by women giving birth; Aticpac Calqui Cihuatl, "Woman Who Lives in the Sea;" Atlacamani "Sea Storm;" Ayauhteotl, Goddess of nighttime or early morning mist or fog, Ayopechcatl "She Who Dwells on the Back of the Tortoise," the protector of newborn children; among many others.
