This is fun XD glitching sounds with a sequencer I've written in Pure Data, more details on it to come.

Changed the bridge pickup on my Epi SG bass, from the stock sidewinder to an Iron Gear Rolling Mill 2 - a guitar pickup, but the bridge on an SG bass is so trebly that I didn't think that would be an issue.

This is recorded straight into my laptop, no FX or mastering at all.

First impressions - not as big a difference as I maybe hoped. I've always felt the stock pickup to be boxy, a bit muddy when fingerpicking, have a hi-mid bark that's annoying when I'm strumming, and weedy when playing like a bass player. 

When fingerpicking, the Rolling Mill 2 is still not as clear as I'd like - a bass cut should fix that - but when strumming it's so much more full and alive. Really impressed me there. And it's very usable when playing finger style like a normal bass player - can't wait to try it though a big valve amp! I'm a little disappointed it's not got more rattly highs, but I doubt I'll ever get enough of them with this bass, it's a set neck so naturally more mellow.

So overall, so far I'm happy with it - but the real test will be to play through a decent amp.

szdl is done. Those two EPs were probably the most successful musical creative period in my life so far, but that time is gone and I feel like I'm judging everything I do against them - so by killing this I can move on and do something new. Don't know what yet, or how, but it's a fresh start for me. I'm going to leave this page up - for myself, so I can look back and see what I've done if I want to, because the files are spread over several computers, most of them now dead - and so, if I want to, I can let other people hear what I've done before.

Thank you everybody who ever listened to a track, I shouldn't vindicate myself through a "like" but I did, and every one meant an awful lot to me.
