Hello and welcome to the Exclusive Series (with Subcode) Featuring the skills and talents of Dublin's unique trio of Electronic music artists. Each month we highlight each of our DJ's, with a 2 hour set aired every 4th Thursday of the month.

It was the turn of Khankra to take to the decks in July, he provided a special set which even by his standards was absolutely flawless. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did, when first aired a couple of weeks ago. 

Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Khankra’s passion for electronic music started at a young age and has continued to evolve with time. Khankra’s roots have always been entwined in hypnotic grooves, rolling basslines and driving melodies.

At 17 he purchased his first set of 1210’s and from there he began forging a name for himself in the Dublin scene, playing at nights across some of the city’s best clubs like The Redbox, The Pod, the Button Factory, Traffic, Mono, The Chocolate Bar.

After somewhat of a hiatus from the scene, in 2014 Khankra had the opportunity to warm up for industry icon, and personal hero, Sasha at The Button Factory.

Following this, Khankra teamed up with the Melodic Residents and handed the headphones over to some other industry legends during this time, including Nick Warren, Sebastien Leger, Los Soruba, The Drifter and Guy J on a number of memorable occasions.

In late 2019, Khankra teamed up with DJ’s Glenn Molloy and Soulfinder to form Fusion Underground. Since then the group have started the Fusion Underground Mix series, which has had some excellent support across the industry and continues to grow.

Khankra has a number of Production projects in play, adding to his releases already on Compatible Records. We should also expect to see Khankra and some top acts playing at Fusion Underground gigs in the near future!

A Life Less Ordinary Oct '23 Autumnal Deep

The now defunct label Fire Recordings still holds a massive hold over me 20 years down the line. Operational from 2000 -2003, Cass Cutbush, Pete Martin & Lee Burridge's label produced and signed some amazingly innovative sounds at the time, this sound has and still influences me to this day. It was inevitable that a Spotlight Show would emerge from the flames (ahem) and here we stand. These are MY favourite tracks of the label that together create (hopefully) a shortened but beautiful story of the mighty Fire Recordings. I hope ya dig =)

Gai Barone at the controls for PFG's November Mix x

Brought up on an eclectic musical diet, Barone initially immersed himself in classical and hip hop (and a fair few shades in between). He started playing musical instruments at an early age and quickly progressed to become an accomplished keyboard player. Getting into dance music in his home country, the young Sicilian was perfectly positioned in 1989 to witness the rise of Italo House. Rapidly caught up in his country’s embryonic electronic dance sound, he watched its influence spread quickly around the world. A year later he started to DJ, initially concentrating his energies inside the country and playing a mix of early progressive twinned with techno that was coming over from the States. 

It wasn’t until five years later though (in 1995) that Gai himself started to experiment musically in the studio, initially working on more minimally minded tracks. With a love of travel and an inbuilt wanderlust he began to country hop, moving first to Germany in 1998 and then transferring to the UK. Continuing to learn the studio craft, he built up a huge range of tracks and ideas for tracks ranging right the way from chillout to hard house. It wasn’t until 2008 (at the age of 33) though that Barone really started to fix on a professional studio career. His focus finally landed at the door of progressive house and trance and his first EP, ‘Solegirasoli’ was signed to Ultimate House Records. Appearing on the radar of a number of the bigger DJ names for the first time, he consolidated this with the tribally progressive track ‘Moving’ for the Mesmerized imprint, which was flipped by the ‘Pemba’. This in turn brought him to the attention of Ask4 Records. Keen to record for the fast-rising label, he produced the rapaciously euphoric trancer ‘Appetite’ which was released in late 2008.

It was at this point that a catalyzing factor was needed in Gai’s career and those stars aligned with his signing to Plastic Angel’s Afterglow imprint and the subsequent release of ‘Lilith’. A trancer of remarkable depth and sophistication, it received the 5/5 ‘Money Shot’ accolade in DJ Magazine, who called it “audio-excellence” and said it delivered a “lump-in-the-throat climax”. Backed by a remix from Jerome Isma Ae, it was greeted with plaudits by DJs around the world, became a Beatport sensation and undisputedly went on to become Gai Barone’s world-stage calling card. 

‘Organum’ (with its remix from fellow countryman Dino Lenny) quickly followed it, as requests for Gai Barone remixes from the likes of Markus Schulz (who named him as one of the top 5 newcomers of 2009), Store n Forward, Egostereo, Cid Inc. and many more.

Now carving out a dark, provocative, increasingly recognizable soundscape with each one of productions, Gai Barone stands on the threshold of an electronic dance music breakthrough.

Opening Set @ The VAULTS - Cardiff -  11.03.2023

I'm super excited to be sharing my Return to Rio Festival set with you.

This mix is very special to me as it's really one of the first times I've been able to express my style of music, and to do so on a stage like this was nothing short of a dream.

It was such a pleasure to play on the Friday evening at the Pool stage and I'll never forget it.

My creative thought process in this mix was to play around with the masculine and feminine energy in me (and all of us) using deeper darker tracks mixed in with dreamy floaty emotive sounds to encapsulate the yin and yang, masculine and feminine to open up each side, to stomp the ground and float away within the hour I had to deliver this set.

Thank you to everyone who danced and who came up to me over the weekend telling me how much they enjoyed it. These comments meant so much to me especially as this was the first time I could express myself musically like this. Thank you.

And the biggest thank you to Ricky and Alex Cooper for inviting me to play and giving me the opportunity to deliver this set. 

Lastly, thank you to my friends who supported me that day as I was crapping it! You guys are wonderful.

LUCY - Return to Rio Festival  'Halloween Special' 2023

Today we're on a mission to Montreal, and the home of a multi talented and unique female artist. Ladies and Gents, Il Modo are proud to present, the return of Anaïs Ley!

Performing live for decades, Montreal based DJ/Producer Anaïs has trademarked a sound that is svelte and uniquely her own. Because as far back as she can remember, Anaïs has been on a quest to find the best recorded vibrations of the human mind, and to share them. She hopes to create a communal space, where everyone can feel more unity and more freedom, by graciously putting a spark of magic in every note she plays. 

Exploring the sonic jungle for years, she found her own family within the crew of Passeport Bar in Montreal, and soon decided to start the art of DJ'ing in 2014.

From there, opportunities have flowed in: from Salon Daomé, to Velvet, to Newhaus, to the mighty Stereo, and the renowned day party Burning Sun. She also branched out with the Toronto scene at One Loft, and to several secret beach parties celebrated in different parts of Canada, and Jamaica.

With her unique style, Anaïs Ley will bring you to a melodic and progressive state of consciousness, overlaying strong and captivating rhythms, with an innate easiness to bring the audience into her various worlds.

Tom Rudolfs (TGR) launched his professional career at the famous King King nightclub in Hollywood, California. Tom has performed at premier nightspots all around California, featured alongside world-renowned Djs and has collaborated with some of the top producers in North America. His influences come from an array of musical genres from techno, reggae, alternative pop, punk, house, to hip-hop. With a combination of sophistication and skillful exploration of soundscapes his sets help create a lasting experience for the listener.
