It’s been 3 years since I last released a mix, so I’m well excited to announce the release of mine and MC Bengee’s 40 minute studio mix. It’s the full spectrum of drum and bass and I’ve put in all of my most recently finished tunes and unreleased, unheard material, alongside some collabs too. Give it a listen, and if you can, give it a share. I want to get this one out there so people can hear what we sitting on. Also big ups to @milo_dnb for the final processing of the mix 🔊🔊🔥❤️❤️

Triple 8 x MC Bengee • February 2024 Studio Mix

Subdue Audio drop their first VA, bringing an impressive 8 new artists to the label.

The label’s most ambitious release yet has something for everyone who likes to keep their BPMs above 170, making a strong statement of intent over the course of 13 tracks.

Drawing from the musical origins of the genre, the VA features numerous junglistic cuts adapted to various contexts. Che Mac’s Jungle Music boasts big amens to bigger 808s in keeping with classic sounds, whilst Sordid Affair’s Leaving makes use of a cerebral processed vocal chord progression, thick bassline, and an ethereal sample in a contemporary twist. The boundary between jungle and drum and bass is blurred further by Vansnatch on Into You; desire-filled vocals, a saturated bass, and syncopated drums blend a jungle arrangement with minimal sound design. 

Minimal flavours heavily persist across six other tracks on the release. Empt’s contribution is a combination of distorted bass and moody arpeggios and percussions. Concentrate by Gengs features a thunderous call and response bassline paired with stripped-back drums, whilst O/MEGA’s Elucidate revolves around an animated, saturated bassline and pitched vocal chops. Subdue Audio’s bold move to combine styles from across the spectrum is exemplified on Brasstax’s Stitch Up and Koto by Apom, as minimal elements are combined with jungle and jump up influences respectively. Even Jump Up stalwart Vital leans into a more rolling number with stripped back drums and selective sampling.

Other tracks lean further into the rich heritage of jump up - specifically, the fabled Bristol sound of the late ‘90s. Laney’s Ina Fiya brings big roller vibes to the VA, echoing back to the classic V Recordings and Full Cycle sound, whilst TLZ (UK) re-injects minimal energy into Back Again with Madrush MC taking charge on the vocal.

Fully expressing the diversity of the label, two liquid tracks are also featured. Edan and Berrow pair soft and graceful piano chords with a deep, resonant bassline on Always Tired, and ZER0STRATEGY closes the release with another beautiful liquid cut, No More Time To Waste. Organic, rolling drums, glistening vocalisations, and distorted organ arpeggios perfectly round out the release and offer a glimpse into the diverse and promising future of Subdue Audio.
