I just felt like I needed to make something seeing as how it's been a month since I posted last. 

Was really just doing a lot of fiddling around with FL today and figuring out tools I've never used before so this kinda came out of nowhere really. 

I want to make something original at some point that doesn't require samples as a foundation but I feel like I keep getting over my head and getting too in the weeds with the simple stuff. 

Maybe theory and sound design will come more naturally if I can get song structure, composition, and mixing down first? (This is literally working so far backwards but just let me be delusional lol).

Just a lil chill vibe. 

Had my cat sitting in my lap pretty much the whole time I was working on this and figured I'd title it after him (he's missing one of his legs). 

Liked working on this one. Wanted to find some way I could incorporate a new plugin I got (Spitfire Audio Impressionism) and think I found a good spot for it. It's a super in the weeds plugin and I definitely need to work with it more, even if it's pretty context heavy.

Really wanted to sit down and be super intentional about a project so this one took me a little longer than usual to finish up. I described the vibes of this to someone as "Thundercat meets Nero" but those are lofty claims lmao. 

Really happy with how this turned out and how much experience I feel like I got finding new challenges to tackle and to get out of my comfort zone a little bit. 

Wasn't trying to stick to any particular genre, was honestly just having fun and sometimes that's more important than to reinvent the wheel in a particular style or sound.

Three 2nds

Been in a pretty big creative slump lately, even though I've been taking lessons for theory so I can get better with my production. 

Feels like I keep trying to make projects that don't go anywhere and that's frustrating. That frustration kinda boiled over today and I just had to sit to myself in the quiet for a little bit and reflect and refresh. 

Just followed my instincts on this one and didn't try to force anything. No expectations, no desired sounds or vibe, just whatever it was that I felt in the moment. I think that's the key to going where I want to go and not where I feel like I *need* to go with music. 

I just need to trust myself more.

Eyes Up

Looks like it's actually time to start using these entries as an actual music journal lmao. 

Recently I've been feeling a lot of things. Creative block, frustration, anger, guilt following outbursts, feeling inadequate in my identity as a creative person, and stagnation. This is juxtaposed by the other side of things where I'm winning battles I never thought I'd win, reassured by my successful attempts to build stronger connections with my friends, and a realization that all this hardship I've been going through lately will end. 

There's a balance to it and you kinda have to ask yourself - when you compare the good times and the bad times, what are you seeing? Are the good times marred by the darkness of the bad moments or do the bad moments add contrast to and brighten the good times? Is the painting black with bright colors or vividly colored with dark shadows?

The yin and yang arent the shapes that push into each other, it's the circle that holds them both.

Just a random bout of inspiration to make something today. Got this as the result. 

I've been working on a lot lately - primarily breaking bad habits. Habits that waste a lot of my time. Habits that damage my ability to socialize and meet new people. Habits that make me feel trapped in my own home sometimes. Habitual thinking and habitual patterns. 

There's a lot that goes into breaking bad habits, mainly a lot of little efforts. Addictions and harmful habits are boulders that block your path forward. You have to chip at them piece by piece. Every day you go without caving, that's a chip. Every time you recognize a trigger to an urge and avoid it, that's a chip. The boulder will break before you do. Keep working. 

Othering

Man, I think I've tried to remix this song at least two to three times over the last decade and some change. It just works so well in so many different genres and mashes really well with other tracks too. 

That said, things are stressful these days, but it doesn't mean things still can't be good. 

Happiness is a choice, not a destination or outcome.
