I just felt like I needed to make something seeing as how it's been a month since I posted last. 

Was really just doing a lot of fiddling around with FL today and figuring out tools I've never used before so this kinda came out of nowhere really. 

I want to make something original at some point that doesn't require samples as a foundation but I feel like I keep getting over my head and getting too in the weeds with the simple stuff. 

Maybe theory and sound design will come more naturally if I can get song structure, composition, and mixing down first? (This is literally working so far backwards but just let me be delusional lol).

Don't Want This

I actually started this track with a completely different idea and as I was browsing through samples, it ended up turning into something completely different. 

I won't say I'm not happy with what the outcome was but I will say that this is a good learning experience. I feel like I'm a little inflexible with my song structure and I want to branch out and try something else and this was more of a trip than a full step in the right direction. That said, I know I have a lot to learn and dialing in one thing is the best way to build a foundation to be able to branch out into other things. Like how getting really good at one character in a fighting game helps you build fundamentals and basics so when you master them, you can branch out and try a new character and not feel like you're struggling.

Ok this was a lot of fun to work on. 

Feeling like I had a better grasp on song structure here but kinda got held up because the sample pack I was using for vocals only had the two hooks and a chorus in the key I was working in so I had to double up a little. 

Good to keep in mind for the future.

Falling For You

Ok I REALLY had a lot of fun working on this today. 

Honestly the highlight for me was figuring out the pan stutter (got the idea while listening to "Session" by Linkin Park)

This is actually my first real high-energy track I've made in a LONG time and I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out. I feel like I learned a good bit with this too, especially when it comes to automation.

Trying to get the hang of arranging voices in an ensemble to feel a bit more organic and not like everything is stacked on top of each other. 

This was a fun little project and I feel like I learned a good bit about natural instruments and voices and how to get them to play nicely with one another. 

Tried a little jam band segment towards the end and just generally like the vibe here.

Just a lil chill vibe. 

Had my cat sitting in my lap pretty much the whole time I was working on this and figured I'd title it after him (he's missing one of his legs). 

Liked working on this one. Wanted to find some way I could incorporate a new plugin I got (Spitfire Audio Impressionism) and think I found a good spot for it. It's a super in the weeds plugin and I definitely need to work with it more, even if it's pretty context heavy.

Really wanted to sit down and be super intentional about a project so this one took me a little longer than usual to finish up. I described the vibes of this to someone as "Thundercat meets Nero" but those are lofty claims lmao. 

Really happy with how this turned out and how much experience I feel like I got finding new challenges to tackle and to get out of my comfort zone a little bit. 

Wasn't trying to stick to any particular genre, was honestly just having fun and sometimes that's more important than to reinvent the wheel in a particular style or sound.
